we first saw the car at Maxsted-Page just before xmas 2008 and put in a offer. only to find the owner had changed his mind and taken the car back.
so i decided my time had come to do that outlaw project i have been (and still am) dreaming of, so i contacted Paul Smith of PR services and asked if he had anything suitable in. he e-mailed me a list and at the very bottom of the list he scribbed "due in= 1958 356a cab (ex austrian police car)"
blimey are they really that common ?
no, they certainly are not common, infact as far as we can tell (so far) this is the only serviving 356A police car from a total of maybe a dozen worldwide. It appears the owner had had a change of heart and i suspect he was slightly to embaressed go back to Maxsted -Page so had contacted PR services.
I had already had Andy Prill do a thorough look over the car and we had checked out all it's paperwork, so i arranged to send PR services the money asap. which unfortunatly because of the xmas/new years holidays didn't clear untill 7th Jan 2009.

now all you aneraks out there will notice straight away that there is something alittle strange about how little space there is in my boot
thats because the spare wheel has been moved back slightly and now lays much flatter
if i take the spare wheel out your find a floor
now if i use the alan key provided (shown above) and remove the floor you find...
two 6V batteries that work in Tandam to make up a 12V system to run all the auxillaries systems
Hence if you scroll back up the thread and take a look at the engine you might spot something abit odd about that
