70 S, RHD, Signal Orange, UK->Australia->UK

Post by inaglasshouse »

Hi all,

I'm pretty new to DDK - newbie post is here: viewtopic.php?f=17&t=48670.

Please allow me to introduce my project car. A 1970 2.2S, RHD, in Signal Orange. I bought it today.

Good news: I think I have a matching numbers, RHD, 2.2 S. What's not to like?
Well, there are one or two issues...
More to follow.

Cheers, Richard.

Looks like it.

Another UK one - this looked good value (well in the current market)

Damn, you guys are good!
And fast.
Yep, that's the one.
Issues include:

1) It's in Australia

2) There's a "bit" of work to do:

 Congratulations, I'm glad the poor love has found a home at last.

There's nothing there that a 150 page DDk restoration thread and a hundred grand can't sort out.

Looking forward to the journey. :)

Regards, Mike.

That's great news, you have bought Mitchell's car. We sold him a few parts for it and its great to see it coming back to the UK. We have just finished the resto of a RHD 2.2S so if you need any pics etc to help let me know. I also have pics of a RHD signal orange 2.2S that I painted years ago on file, if these help/motivate also let me know.

Congratulations

Alan

Thanks Mike. I think.
Not sure if I'll hit 150 pages or 100 grand, but it strikes me this might take a while. Unscientific browsing of these fantastic resto threads leads me to believe it's going to be years.
So, as you say, nothing to do but enjoy the journey. That's definitely a big part of it for me. Hoping to learn a lot.
Cheers, Richard.

I appreciate that, and will take you up on it. Would also value a chat about other (obvious!) matters. I'll be in touch.

Thanks Darren.
Don't hold your breath for the next instalment. Quite a long boat ride required first.
Cheers, Richard.

If you'd like to see the finished item for reference or inspiration, feel free to take a short trip to Wandsworth while the cars on its long trip.

Has that lovely silver one that Edward Lovett bought made it back yet?!

Thanks both. What kind offers and what a great forum this is.
Will be taking all the advice I can get, and would love to see any and all reference / inspiration cars. Will be in touch.

Yes. Currently being fettled at Jaz in Wembley, according to Edward (we discussed last week). On the market if you are interested!

Cheers, Richard.

Richard,

Excellent! What a place to start, I have just recently sold my 2.2T. Absolutely loved it.

The (in)sane thing to do was buy another one, this time a 2.4E. Looking at the images you have posted you are in better shape than me.

No doubt we will compare notes as things progress.

Best of luck

It's going to be a great build, but hopefully won't take as long as my 6 year 'S' project though
Think you might not be to far away from me in Weybridge, do get in touch if I can be of any help.
cheers, Mike.
