Like Russ, I too attended Gawsworth Hall, great turnout of just about all things Porsche.

Finished off and welded in mountings for roll bar, sorted out a few minor bits'n'bobs on engine... That's all.

Re: What did you do in/on/for your Porsche today?
A long winter of works that took longer than expected, cost more than expected, but is now (almost) finished!
Change leaky and rusty '76 exhaust system to SSIs (thanks Glynn) and Dansk SS single out
Required changing of oil pipes - note to self the cost saving of buying a pipe from ECP is not worth the time taken to make it fit
Change to SS muffler bands - same as above re: time vs cost
Remove corroded heater flapper boxes and change to SSI stainless ones - some studs broken so managed to source some sleeve nuts to fit them
Replace control cables
Service - I've tried several different sorts of gaskets previously, so decided to get them from OPC this time. I think the special wavy washers make a difference as no leaks so far
Strip/clean/re lube starter motor
Remove pedal box to rebush, sent off for powder coating. Dealt with rust in the pedal box area as a result of old brake fluid. Refill with ATE Racing blue
Deal with several areas of surface corrosion underneath: Bilt Hamber rust converter/epoxy mastic and then wax/underseal depending where
Change sunroof cables for new 2nd hand ones; replace sunroof seals
NOTE do not put anodised sunroof surround through the dishwasher...corrosion has largely come off using the Silvo wadding stuff.
Adjust front wheel bearings
Adjust handbrake
New rear grill to replace backdated shiny anodized one
I drove it finally on Sunday and the SSIs combined with a service have made a huge difference. I know it's only CIS, but it now flies up the rev range and feels much more rapid than it was previously.
Still to do:
Sort a heater backdate/refit blower motor but original plastic casing cracked and it looks like the relay is missing and someone has fitted a '74 relay panel in the engine bay- parts needed either way
Replace interior
Fettle gear linkage - third is notchy - it might be worn out, but I'll try fettling first
Tune-up
Refurb some 6" cookie cutters I have acquired and find some tyres for them.
Drive lots

Re: What did you do in/on/for your Porsche today?
Tried to sort this lot out. It is the glove box lock.
It fell apart at the weekend. The little pin had come out. I managed to get it all sorted out but the pin kept falling out.
It seemed that the hole that it goes in was much to big and the pin was falling over.
I eventually filled it with plastic metal and drilled it. It seems ok now

Up to Mike Bainbridge's, engine and gearbox out, new clutch fitted. Engine and gearbox back in. Adjusted the throttle cable as we weren't getting full throttle. Then off for an MOT, passed with flying colours, not a bad days work.

Am I right in thinking that if Barry had done the little cutout modification with bespoke cover plate to the rear end of the tunnel you could have done that job without dropping the engine but just the box?
Regards
Mike

Re: What did you do in/on/for your Porsche today?
Here you go,
Trial fit
Newcastle
19 hours continuous drive to,
Stockholm
Finland arrival,
What was in here,
Now loaded in here,
Heading home, Turku awaiting loading,
Saab factory nearby,
Big bridge,
2700 road miles, 8 days, 7 countries, 4 capital cities, 4 ferry crossings,2 nights sleeping in the car, 5 nights in a comfortable bed. Epic trip.
Best of all, the hospitality of Mika was without doubt above and beyond anything expected especially the Reindeer steaks and then breakfast by the lake the morning after. A true gentleman, a real DDker and I think a new friend who is hopefully coming to Scotland for a return visit (and some Haggis which he is keen to try). I look forward to it!,,
