Thanks Andrew, that makes sense. As a supplementary question. how should the squirter solenoid be wired? Is it W to the solenoid connection with the body to earth? If so that doesn't give enough volts for it to activate.

I think so. Just a thought, but I think it's advisable to know what you are storing where. Specifically things you value and need not to lose. I've had a little look. The switch with the engine cold is closed circuit at 0 ohms so that's a good start. One of the wires goes to the solenoid on top of the fuel filter console so that's a good start. The other wire goes to earth which puzzles me as I expected it to go to a switched positive eff...

I failed in mine. The hole in the knob is to big and floppy. Didn't work at all. I do dislike a floppy knob!

I think I am a bit punch drunk on links! I've got a wiring diagram which I'll track through. On first glance it looks to have the compoanents on that I can see on my engine. Need to look at it afresh tomorrow!

I can see why that would be a good idea with the switches being £260. I need an hour or two on it to check exactly what's what as cold start takes an age, so I'd love to fix it.

Would anyone know the parameters of the thermal switch? At what temp does it go open circuit?

To bump this to the top, I'm still trying to work out how the fuel control mechanisms work for the 1973 2.4S install. What I think I have is: 1 squirters - fuel is fed from the top of the filter housing to the squirters for cold start. 12v comes from the starter feed, goes through the temp switch in...

I think that hard tops on a convertible are a retrograde step! It basically means you'll never be able to take the top down again, even if you get the bestest most wonderful weather. Each to their own though!

Mind you, is it a timeswitch? When the temp is low enough, the squirters are activated from the starter circuit, so when it cranks? Or only for a certain time when it cranks?
