Re: It started with a pop

I was thinking about a momentary toggle switch or push button just to prime the carbs as you mentioned.
PM me if you like when you find out pump details.

Re: It started with a pop

Mike
I've been thinking about doing this on my 912 purely to use for priming.
Once it's been primed will the mechanical pump draw the fuel through the electric pump ok?
Cheers

Re: Refurbishing Solex carbs

Also check if there is any play in the throttle shafts that will cause air leaks. If there is you can end up wasting your time on them as you can never get them to run correctly. The only solution to this is an expensive refurb with machining work. Sometimes it's cheaper to fit brand new webers.

Re: It started with a pop

well done! Don't feel too bad about the distributor drive issue, I seem to remember doing the same thing on a VW engine I built many years ago and it took me ages to work out what I had done wrong! I didn't really find a definite answer as many people have different ideas on this, but I cha...

Re: weber idf 40 jetting

I've found that the only way to get the jetting really spot on is lots of expensive time on a rolling road or install an afr gauge and you can do many hours of driving under different loads to get it just right. All part of the tuning fun! 32mm vents 125 mains F7 emulsion 47 idles 220 air correction...

Re: It started with a pop

Looks like you will soon be ready to fire it up! The oil temp in mine runs much cooler since fitting the pre mat filter so I think the heat shield does its job. Also I reckon the extra amount of oil must help. Andrew did you cut the second lip off the flywheel seal? As recommended by others. Andrew ...

Re: It started with a pop

Hi Andrew
Looks like your are making good progress!
When I fitted the premat oil pump cover I found that I had to remove the two locating pins to get the pump gears to turn freely. I'm not sure this is mentioned in the instructions but I'd read it somewhere (probably on bbs 912).

Re: It started with a pop

Hi Andrew If you gonna onto aa website (or many others)they have a compression ratio calculator. All you need is your head cc size, bore, stroke and piston dome cc which is is 17cc. From all this you can work out what shims to use to get the correct deck height to give you a 9.1 compression ratio. At ...

Re: It started with a pop

Hi Andrew I also went with the AA pistons and cylinders, but I went with the cast iron type cylinders. The weights and ring gaps etc needed no adjusting just a strip down and really good clean. Regarding the full flow kit I am sure you will find the installation easy, as you say you just need a Drem...

Re: It started with a pop

Hi Adrian
The pre mat filter is mounted below sump level and is therefore always filled with oil so will have to agree to disagree with you on this one.

Re: It started with a pop

Hi Andrew
I got mine from andy prill. He imports the precision matters stuff from the usa.
In fact I got a lot of my rebuild parts from him as his prices were really competitive and he is a really helpful guy.

Re: It started with a pop

The precision matters unit has a pressure relief valve built into the unit and I wanted to keep my original filter set up as well (mainly for the engine bay appearance).
I'm sure there are pros and cons with both setups but this is one I chose to go with. Good luck with the engine rebuild.

Re: It started with a pop

Hi Andrew. I fitted the precision matters one on my engine when I was rebuilding it. Its really nice quality but quite pricey. You do have to remove a small amount of material from the 3rd piece where the oil pump gears fit. Quite easy to do and if you keep your old pump cover you can change back to...
