Re: All change at ‘Classic Porsche’ Mag?
I've stuck with it from the start to now. It dived after Keith in many areas esp when you compare it to Octane. Recently, it has had some good features, but for me far too 'historical' and deviates away from the cars, but just my take. The details at times are irritating as the mistakes are so funda...

Re: Your Porsche pic of the day......
Had the morning to myself today, so washed the Boxster and took it out to dry the brakes off, to the local Farm shop, 2 20Kg bags of seed and peanuts into the boot and the frunck and stopped off at a nice hamlet/village on the way back for some late spring pictures. It was sunny but the phone took d...

Re: 356 big European Trip
It's been a treat!
Covered some of our favorite places, and some off our radar, so a good watch for us.
Car worked too, so a real bonus for all.

Re: Assessing an unknown engine
Well done Rob. Need to get all the parts out and check the IMS gear wheel for damage etc., but looks like a good engine. If it helps, when my 3.2 blew the alum grains were everywhere in the engine, oil cooler and all the galleries and pipes, just everywhere. I threw the oil cooler away as impossible...

Re: my non-Porsche picture of the day
I organised an evening trip to explore CMC a few years ago for my motor club, 26 of us.
A really nice place, full of great cars all being worked on.
Not at all surprised it looks so good!

Re: Assessing an unknown engine
I thought Mike had retired? That lump of alloy jamming the piston should tap back into the case where it dropped in from? Gary is right, free one side of the engine of pistons and you will make progress after that with the crank exposed. If the pump is tight it may be with metal parts from what has ...

Re: Assessing an unknown engine
Another fan of the Rings! Remember the Good Guys win in the end. Dempsey of course locates the ramp/colour for you on rebuild. There is a good chance the broken mounting stud has been screwed in too far and pushed the back of the blind hole into the engine, you will soon find out! Exoecting to see a...

Re: Assessing an unknown engine
Yes, just tear it apart, every bit of the engine, then check things out as you will have to anyway.

Re: Assessing an unknown engine
I can't think of a reason why you cannot split the cases and free the crank as long as you have no cam chains fitted to the cams.
The tight crank could be a number of things from a seized oil pump to the main bearings.
You need to have that stud/corner welded anyway, so simply tear it all apart.

Lovely!
Nice to see one in action and leaning on it good and hard Rob.
A sunny Curb, nice surprise.

Re: Old Sckool 5 cc model Diesel engine build
I think the root problem is compression both primary (crank case) and cylinder. The piston should be all but an interference fit at the TDC position. I also need to check the piston top to the exhaust ports and the transfer port, but not feeling the LUV yet to strip it down and check. More homework ...

Re: Assessing an unknown engine
I think I meant Never Again will I do a modiofied 911 engine, but a stock rebuild will be easy by comparison. A nice reliable Clewett system would be good over the 1986 Bosche DME? Don't think that will happen again in my garage! You will need a lot of paraffin to rough wash those parts, the longer ...
