Re: More scary cr@p from DVLA
^ You would think so but it’s just words on a government website. A case in point is this page where it states that cars and minibuses over 10 years old (with 8 seats or less) are exempt from vehicle approval. That would seem pretty clear cut wouldn’t it? https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-approval/exemptio...

Re: More scary cr@p from DVLA
^Trying to assess what is right or wrong is fruitless. The point is the 'rules' are not clearly defined and the 'fun police' are enforcing them how they see fit. Essentially the DVLA refer to a 'policy' that has not been published so everyone is in the dark about what can and cannot be done. What ha...

Re: More scary cr@p from DVLA
^ Well that is an interesting point. if you take any car with a separate chassis then drilling holes in the upper body is ok. Yet put a hole in a monocoque for, say, fitting seatbelts and you're in the Q club.

Re: More scary cr@p from DVLA
How would you get a quality repair done? By a workshop that keeps their work 'under the radar'? They would be legally obliged to put every restored car on a Q. Edit: "Dear sir, Please find the attached works and invoice for repair work on your Aston Martin DB4. This includes additional works re...

Re: More scary cr@p from DVLA
Just had a read. This is a fair point, well made! "DVLA claim that vehicle registration policy is the same for vehicles of all ages. If that is the case, we consider the rulings regarding repairs to chassis or monocoques should apply equally to repaired accident damaged modern vehicles but that...

I can't vouch that these are 100% genuine but it would seem an odd thing to falsify:

Re: More scary cr@p from DVLA
Yes, things are potentially looking sketchy for 100's of workshops restoring cars and especially those strengthening chassis. I got forwarded a letter from the DVLA which is doing the rounds concerning a customer who made a complaint about the Q plate / IVA test required for a roll cage. The letter ...

Re: Black and silver number plates
I’m fairly sure in 1973 you had to use a yellow rear plate. Typically metal with plastic letters attached. Obviously these days, due to a legal mistake with historic tax rules, you can use a black rear plate on a 1973. So basically pick whatever you fancy [emoji16] DVLA forward dated the use of Bla...

Re: Wtd 1970 914 rear 4stud or converted 5 stud hubs
Jonny great advice and I’m always sceptical especially around these crucial parts. It’s just a pity that Uk doesn’t have same supply resource than USA, some suppliers there need to be watched also, but suppose supply and demand. I have options and sure something will turn up soon Since I resolved t...

Re: Wtd 1970 914 rear 4stud or converted 5 stud hubs
You can buy brand new 5 stud hubs (made by OE Match Classic whoever that is) from Design911. But... There is a problem with them. When you pull the studs in, the thinner area between the stud hole and the edge of the hub deforms outward which means the brake disc doesn't seat (as it locates on the h...
