Cheating a bit... gorgeous yellow 2.4S at GCR this morning.

Cheating because not exactly "on the road". One very lucky person is collecting this today after Chris and team have done some work on it. My car is nice but this was lovely. Fingers crossed for my MOT later!

Metallic Grey 356 Cab outside the V&A museum

Yesterday at around 2. Looked and and sounded gorgeous. I'm jealous!

....and soooo much more classy than the bright yellow Lamborghini somethingorother that we saw 2 minutes later!

Re: Noise Reduction

So, I'm a bit rusty on this stuff, but it was my day job years ago...... The heavy layer is indeed to stop panel resonances that transmit acoustic energy into the cabin. Because they're heavy, they also reduce direct noise transmission into the cabin. Basically if you double the panel mass per unit ...

Re: engineering question

Hi, Have you thought about tumble polishing/de-burring? If you google "tumble deburring" suppliers are listed. When I was an apprentice we used machines like this to finish compressor blades that were machined from solid - if you've ever looked in a gas turbine you wouldn't want to do them...

Re: Vulcan - Falklands bombing raid.

Pilot's name was Martin Withers, former colleague of my Dad's. Chatting to Dad at the weekend it seems this is the last season as they have run out of engines (had an issue last year where they left something in a duct and it lunched the engine on startup, I believe.) If you get the chance, it's got...

Re: Car shippers within UK?

In the late 90's I worked at an automotive consultancy. We shipped cars all over the place, high value prototypes, competitor cars etc. We used Transcars.

Might be worth asking them to quote.

Re: XH558 - the last airworthy Vulcan grounded?

Cockpit is DEFINITELY cramped, especially up front. I was lucky enough to see XH558 with my dad when she was at Bruntingthorpe being restored. They had stripped out all of the rear seat kit (where the navigator, bomb aimer and AEO sat) and it certainly didn't feel spacious even then. It's all about ...

Nice white 912 in Leicester

...actually parked outside Chris's place (GCR) as I dropped mine off. Looked good sitting on steel wheels with hubcaps.

Re: Pre Purchase Inspection

Hi Liam,

I used Peter Morgan to look at a couple of cars before I bought. Although he's not based in the midlands he has a network of associates around the country so should be able to help you.

In chatting to him at the start he was really helpful and gave me some really useful advice too!

Scared the wits out of the guy who re-painted the rear wing on my car.

I quite like it!! :)

Re: Aston Martin V8

Have you driven one? Astons do look good, but they might not deliver dynamically. Takes me back to the mid 90's working for a car manufacturer in Norfolk, and we got a V8 Vantage in for ride & handling and noise & vibration appraisal (probably swapped it for the day for an Esprit - that was ...

Re: Recognise this?

Keith, Nige & Mike, Thanks very much. The fact that a bit of air might whistle through the fan shroud or a hole in a longeron is a lot less worrying than something to do with the fuel system. I'll have a play at the weekend and see if I can get it back where it belongs. Thanks again for your hel...

Recognise this?

Hi All, Living on the edge here. First ever pictures I've posted. Unidentified plastic blanking plug found in LH of engine bay sitting on tinware near spark plugs. Anything significant? http://oi55.tinypic.com/2hwgydt.jpg http://oi56.tinypic.com/2vj20wm.jpg Apologies for the size of the pictures. If...

Re: Unidentified plastic bung found loose in LH of engine ba

Thanks Stu. That makes me feel a bit better. I've been looking on the engine/airbox/fuel pump. I'll look elsewhere now. As an aside I've emailed the photos of the bung to my 19 year-old son whose response was "Dad - how do you expect to get help if you can't sort this out?" Hope to post th...
