Re: Nice John Lucas article in Classic Porsche

Not a John story as such but I remember seeing that 356 racing at Brands Hatch in a one make series when I was a youngster, which I'm sure influenced my choice of Porsche... It was during its 'apostrophe' era so may have had Caroline at the wheel. The car cropped up again a couple of decades later i...

Re: Hagerty Valuation Tool.

Insurance values are a tricky one. Tools like this and asking prices only act as a guide. The only way to get an accurate value of your own car at a point in time is to sell it, but then you won't need insurance! While you don't want to be under-insured in a total loss situation equally you don't wa...

Re: Kop Hill Climb, nr Princes Risborough

I ran my 356 up the hill a couple of years ago. The hill is best suited to power rather than handling but has an interesting history, particularly pre-war so you see some great pre-war cars and bikes. I think you need to register in advance so you may be too late to run the hill, though the hill is ...

Le Mans Classic

Hi all, A few 356ers are joining the French based Original Flat Four Drivers Club at LMC. They have a great line up of early VW and Porsche including a split screen pre-A. A selection of the cars can be seen here: http://lemansclassicvw.skynetblogs.be/ If you're going to LMC be sure to come and say ...

Re: Oil filter can gasket

Paul, My oil filter can had a black rubber gasket in the lid. I was advised to re-use this rather than the thinner gasket that comes with the oil filter. You may be able to buy the rubber gasket from the usual vendors. When I got my car there wasn't a washer between the cap and bolt but I now use a ...

Stonor Park 2014

If any DDKers are interested, the organisers have set aside a display area for 356s at Stonor Park air-cooled show near Henley 1/6/14. Advanced tickets are £5 per car including entry into the informal concours, which has a new class for classic air-cooled Porsche. The deadline for advanced tickets i...

Re: Doh! Missed another one!

The other option is to save up a bit longer for a solid driver needing minor bodywork or mechanical attention. A longer term rolling restoration should be less risky than a full on body resto and will have you on the road sooner. Plus if there turns out to be a bubble in the market which pops while ...

Re: Super unleaded ?

Super unleaded should reduce the risk of fuel leaks as it has a lower content of bio fuel which degrades old fuel lines. If your car has new fuel lines and is stock I would think normal unleaded is fine as our cars were built to run on the lower quality petrol of the 50s & 60s

Re: Insurance quotes

I'd get a quote from RH:

http://www.rhclassicinsurance.co.uk/

my cover includes breakdown recovery which I used twice in the first year I had the car and the premiums didn't go up materially.

Re: Oil pressure advice

Thanks all for the advice. We have changed the oil pressure switch and the green light now stays off at tickover after a long run. The consensus seems to be that the early A cars with small oil pump make less pressure. Whilst I love working on the car I love driving it more, so plan to keep it on th...
