Re: We Go Merano!

Friday was the first official event day for the 356 International meeting. We were given a briefing the night before and a tulip style road book. Having come through the steep and twisting pass to enter Merano, we knew what to expect, except this would involve climbing several passes.  http://i1170....

Re: We Go Merano!

Hi Graham and Roy.

Don't worry, the story is still unfolding, but I appreciate you offering help. Wait for the next instalment!

Re: We Go Merano!

We were now only a few hours to go to Merano, but the next morning it was clear it had been a very cold night. http://i1170.photobucket.com/albums/r521/trishg50/2f662558.jpg The 356 started okay but around the streets of the city it was spluttering and misfiring. Having stayed in another hotel Mark ...

Re: We Go Merano!

Before leaving the Porsche Museum, Hendrik, you'll be pleased to know that as the good citizens of Stuttgart went about their business oblivious to something that no doubt happens with some regularity, we did as you suggested, and took advantage of the swish pavement concourse. http://i1170.photobuc...

Re: We Go Merano!

It was a huge relief  to eventually make it to the Museum, and take up a parking spot next to this Brit 356A 1600s.  http://i1170.photobucket.com/albums/r521/trishg50/c40ce325.jpg Who are you I wonder? On your way to Merano? Perhaps we'll get to meet there. http://i1170.photobucket.com/albums/r521/t...

Re: We Go Merano!

Thanks Mitch for letting us off the hook, but we've had a think about it and maybe we can split the posts up a bit and make things easier. So this is what I was going to post on Wednesday, just to keep the story theme going!  Outside the hotel on Wednesday morning I found Mark checking his windscree...

Re: We Go Merano!

Thanks once again for all your support and feedback, and I've heard more about Rainex from some of the people here too, so I'll be exploring it ASAP. I'm afraid that Trish and I have so far been defeated by intermittent hotel wifi to be able to post further well illustrated reports ( we spent severa...

Re: We Go Merano!

As we travel, internet access is limited, but thanks to everyone for their really helpful comments which I've just read tonight in the lobby of a hotel in Bingen, on the Rhine, some 2 hours from Stuttgart. We go on there tomorrow to visit the Porsche Museum.  The drive down here has at times been a ...

Re: We Go Merano!

Thanks Graham and Mitch. We'll certainly take photos and attempt to post them while on the road.

That's the ambition anyway. We're planning to meet up with other 356 drivers on the way, and make a first time visit to the Porsche Museum too.

We'll let you know how it goes.

We Go Merano!

We're off to Merano. But it's been touch and go. I've been without my 356A for some weeks as the original gearbox was being sorted, but there are problemos to use a DDK term. But courtesy of Roger Bray and his crew I have a temporary fix - Roger has fitted his "racing" gearbox to get us ba...

Re: I would welcome your thoughts!

Hi Graham You're right - Davidstow was a very appropriate location. I'd forgotten the 356 connection even though I've got the book by Peter Tutthill on the history of Cornwall's Formula 1 Race Circuit (Bernie Ecclestone - eat your heart out). This picture (very foggy in the book, just like the airfi...

Re: I would welcome your thoughts!

I'm producing a short trailer first which will probably go on YouTube, and which will be designed to help in the search for previous owners. I now know half of the car's history and what happens to the footage will very much depend on what else comes to light. Roy - I remember Graham talking about y...

Re: I would welcome your thoughts!

Apologies for not posting over the weekend as promised. My IT consultant (wife) was on a fruit tree pruning course. Some things in life are more important than 356's it seems. Anyway here goes. First of all, Graham, yes you're right the photo was taken at the desolate Davidstow airfield, a location ...

Re: I would welcome your thoughts!

Thanks for all your generous comments - I'm really glad you found the post interesting. I'll certainly get down to answering your questions and putting up some more shots of the car over the weekend.

Regards

Jeremy

Re: I would welcome your thoughts!

My first post on DDK. Like Madasasnake, about two years ago I had the 356 itch. Left untreated it seems to become an uncontrollable and certifiable disease. I already had a 93 993, but had slowly become infatuated with the earlier cars so I started a search in the usual places and drove a few exampl...
