HI Helen as the oil is clear then it will most prob' be gearbox oil, poss' from the selector shaft seal, or the speedo drive has come loose, with out looking at it , please DO NOT drive it unless you can get some gear box oil in to it, as by the sound of it, it has been leaking for some time???. hop...

HI Helen is it the sporto box leaking oil ?? if so is it engine oil or gearbox oil which is leaking , as the converter is fed by engine oil from a pump on the L/H cam .

HI P to fit the diff correctly the gearbox will require stripping and the diff setting , bearing pre-load and backlash and not in situ'. (seen it don' and had to repair it)

HI have a look at the tinwork screws near the carbs , as some have holes through into the rocker box, and if the screw comes out!!, oil leak, then again it is prob' the rocker cover gasket slipped in side if the clearances have been checked.

HI Anthony sorry to put a spanner in the works but with the gearbox left hanging like it is the selector shaft is getting bent, and even more if the gear linkage is attached, nice job on the car .

HI if it's the inner bearings in the strutcase that are worn then try to find some of these at a bearing supplyers part No MB4030DU H J make up a tool to fit them.

HI i now have price for the engine tool P201, now MBE 201, std size is £305 + painting (modified size extra for material used) 201 will fit porsche engines from 356 through to 993 air cooled, also gearbox's 356 through to G50, a bit over the top but all the VW aircooled engines/boxes as well engine ...
