Re: Porsche making new magnesium crankcases
If I'd have known that I might not have bothered to have all the cracks welded up on my cases. Still I suppose two £4 magnesium welding rods would be bit cheaper than a pair of new cases.

Re: engine rebuild
Same colour as my chesterfield old boy, I was hoping if I cut down my chaise longue I could squeeze it in the back, nothing like a bit of comfort for the rumpy pumpy, but the wee beastie is just too damn tiny which is maybe why it's the only car I have owned I have yet to christen, still if I can ho...

Re: engine rebuild
Thanks FedEx, got my rocker arm bushes from the States, these have to be drilled for the oil feed then pressed into my old rocker arms and honed to size. Lots of Porsche shops can't do this, i thought, fairly basic engineering task but after spending some time phoning round, I've now found a machine...

Re: Retro Classic Stuttgart
I have to advise the cars and cabbage massive will be in attendance at the aforementioned. Our primary quest will be getting to Heathrow, an alien destination to many of us.

Re: engine rebuild
IMG_1156.JPG Got a bit bored over the last few days, nothing to do on the 911 except polish it, my Cobra is still up in Wisbech waiting for brake parts, so I ripped out the interior of the 356. I've never liked it, a horrid blue vinyl which all went in the dustbin. It has always been a noisy car, w...

Re: Porsche at The Podium 26th Feb 2023
Terribly sorry dahlings, we'll all be in Stuttgart on the 26th, anyway I wouldn't be very fond of having my car featured in Classic Porsche next to an article on EVs.

Re: engine rebuild
The one above is on the timing case which totally disintegrated when I double nutted the stud out. One was a crankcase stud by the oil strainer circle immediately below no. 4 pot. Another one below no. 3 which I think maybe an oil fitting, and the last which is not load baring or critical in any way...

Re: engine rebuild
IMG_1137.JPG Here are the engine cases with cracks all repaired ready to go to the machine shop. I'm still waiting for some parts to arrive which will accompany the cases for measuring after they've been on the mill. Good news about the gearbox which is being turned from a load of scrap metal into ...

Re: Your Porsche pic of the day......
The only job I ever did on a deux cheveaux was a chassis swap - it took a weekend.

Re: engine rebuild
I have to say I'm not really a fan of Rod Emory although, without question, he does some amazing work. It is just that his cars usually end up with bodywork that tries too hard to be something out of the 21st century, a bit Star Wars in execution. The 356 is such a pure shape, it doesn't take to bei...

Re: engine rebuild
I pulled off my Koni coilovers, stripped them down and sent the Eibach springs off to Aerocoat in Great Yarmouth to be powder coated white. I sent the threaded part which seats the springs off to be cad and passd' in that nice goldy colour and they looked very tidy when re-assembled and fitted back ...

swapmeet
Would there be any small chance of having the swapmeet date brought forward so the wonderful British weather would not demand we dress up as if we were embarking on a mid winter hike of the North Yorkshire moors. OK yah, I like to wear my Barbour jacket and pull on the Hunters but not when I'm tryin...

Re: engine rebuild
IMG_1125 (2).JPG Forgive me for erring away from the subject but with the wee beastie up in the air and sans engine and gearbox I thought it good to get cracking on a few of the jobs pertinent to the car but not directly relative to it's forward motion. And opposite to forward motion is retardation...
