Re: Old Sckool 5 cc model Diesel engine build
The fine 1200 grit powder arrived 2 days early, so mixed some with a drop of engine oil and set to polishing the bore some more. I really doubt i can improve it further, so have called that a day, and started turning the cast iron piston. I'm experimenting of getting a good chatter-free cut as I red...

Re: What did you do in/on/for your Porsche today?
First hillclimb coming up in 8 days time, so decided to express some TLC on the LOLA. Really simple, body off, 3 mins, fuel in, 3 mins, check battery, 30 secs, start it, 30 secs. Ran a dream, so left it ticking over until hot with a few blips between. Not anti social as the cul-de-sac were out to wo...

Re: What did you do in/on/for your Porsche today?
Dry afternoon so took the old 73T out for the first time since late October. Had started the car about early January, but other than that no action on the car. Tyres were at 26/30 so pumped up to the usual 28/32. Told it that it looked lovely as ever and turned the key. Vrrruoom and settled to 800 r...

Re: Assessing an unknown engine
No probs, mine has carried my heavy 3.2 many times.
The 4 wheel frame is far more stable than the 3 wheel.

Re: Porsche for sale of the day..........
Wonder who did it in 1989, 35 years ago? Who were the specialists then, or maybe just done by an enthusiast.
Looks a nice car to me.

Re: Old Sckool 5 cc model Diesel engine build
Lapped the cylinder using fine cutting compound I've used on car/bike valve seats, and what a difference that made! Changed the look of the surface, but removed a lot of the imperfections. Have ordered the 1200 powder for £6 off ebay. Thought I would try 'expanding' the piston by heating to cherry r...

Re: Old Sckool 5 cc model Diesel engine build
Slowly making my way through the magic world of cylinder/piston lapping... A bit of a folk-law subject, but getting there. Lots of opinions, all experienced, so good, and I think I have the solution sorted. Now awaiting 1200 grade silicon powder for the final finish. You mix this with engine oil and...

Re: Old Sckool 5 cc model Diesel engine build
No James, it will end up as part of my small collection of engines. I do fly model aeroplanes, still a leaner, but all are electric, just so easy to live with. At 5cc a suitable plane would be large, maybe 80" wingspan, and thus take up a lot of room somewhere. but I have non to use, everywhere...

Re: What did you do in/on/for your Porsche today?
After some thought, i could not remember when I last changed the brake fluid in my 911... It could easily be 10 years, so while waiting for parts to come for another project, decided to flush the old out with nice fresh DOT4 fluid. Simple task really, working on the early 911 is a dream, nearly as e...

Re: Old Sckool 5 cc model Diesel engine build
Thanks Mark, but i must admit it is not really to my liking. Dissapointed at my level of handywork, it is scruffy in the detail in exposed places, but overall not to bad maybe for my first shot at precise machining on a 100 year old very basic lathe that has lived a life in a village garage. The Myf...

Re: Non-Porsche Hot Rod picture of the day
Phat Phender Phords as they were know in my hot rod days of the 70's. Fab cars and look very usable. Closest we had here was the Ford Pilot with flathead V8. While writing an small article on my Ford Y Type for a Club magazine today, found some old pics, which bought back some real memories of the f...

Re: '65
That looks a right bib-full.
I did my 73T coupe shell in 1989 and it was bad in the usual places, but 'pristine' compared to this shell.
Some big patches going in, but will be great when it has all cooled down.
Thank you for posting all of this work by Barry, most interesting.
