Re: Front bonnet & engine lid struts ...

OK Andy, found them on the shelf yesterday. When I fitted the 'glass bonnet in 94 ish I made a simple bonnet prop which lays alongside the NS top mount.
Length of 8 mm dia steel tube from B&Q and a few bits found in the garage, all good.

Simple is best.

Re: Porsche ranked least reliable car

This is a familiar story line to several posts on the PCGB Boxster/Cayman forum. My 2009 987.2 2.9 engine is as simple as they made them except for Bioneonthingy lights which are superb. The car is good. Not great, but after 8 years of ownership and a few ups n downs still with me and at a leggy 82,...

Re: Non-Porsche Hot Rod picture of the day

101 shades of Grey between Hot Rod and Restomod I think. Back in my days with them it was down to 2 phrases, Hot Rod and Street Rod. Lots of column inches spent on that 'conversation'. And back in the late 70's a mate built a 32 B glass body with a Hemi, and the weight was unbelievable. It never saw...

Re: What’s this hole for?

Odd hole, not factory i think, but the patch is spot welded excessively to seal it off.

Not easy to get to that area with spot welding arms, so a job done at the factory?

Re: Old Sckool 5 cc model Diesel engine build

Or at lest not one 100 years old!
It would have been much easier with a modern lathe and a modern milling machine...
And someone who had the right skill-set of course.

Re: Old Sckool 5 cc model Diesel engine build

Thank you Mark.
I see that the 'attendance' to this long thread is tailing off sharply so many getting bored!

Gaskets cut out of brown paper just and i think all the machining is behind me.

Been a slog at times, and great at other times!

Typical stuff really when pushing yourself a bit.

Re: Old Sckool 5 cc model Diesel engine build

A lot concluded today. The Last Chapter is opening on this project. The Myford compound slide is back in it's box. Best £17 I spent on this lot. This means No More Milling. The cast iron scrap pile I hope/think is finished, this lot represents a lot of wasted time and a few bob on cast iron. The tub...

Re: Front bonnet & engine lid struts ...

FWIW: I replaced my original rear strut on my 73T about 5 years ago with a part from Type911. Works well, the lid does not shoot open as the release is pulled, but once you have the lid about 100mm open it opens with a vengence. (steel lid) Closes well with some force needed, downwards pressure on t...

Re: 1987 3.2 Carrera Backdate project - Sladeys hotrod

That is a real win Mark, good going and still 4 weeks to go, easy! I have at times the same with Design911, they take the order on line and then you find out the stock status which can be evil. I have complained 4 times, and got a reply the last time which was just to phone them and order all the pa...

Re: Old Sckool 5 cc model Diesel engine build

Having slept on this problem and taking advice from Those Who Know on a model aero plane forum, set to to find why the engine is in bind. After 10 mins it was found, the problem that is, and the solution was easy enough. The cylinder mounting flange to the crank case was out by 10 thou, the cylinder...

Re: Old Sckool 5 cc model Diesel engine build

Not a good day at the lathe today. Wasn't quite in the mood, but pressed on. Made a piston 'blank' that seemed a good fit in the cylinder, tight'ish at the TDc and slightly loose'ish at BDC. Drilled and reamed the wrist pin hole 3/16", no probs. Re-aligned the piston in the cross slide and star...

Re: Old Sckool 5 cc model Diesel engine build

The fine 1200 grit powder arrived 2 days early, so mixed some with a drop of engine oil and set to polishing the bore some more. I really doubt i can improve it further, so have called that a day, and started turning the cast iron piston. I'm experimenting of getting a good chatter-free cut as I red...
