Starter Pinion
After already swapping one flywheel due to damaged ring gear (and never fully understanding what caused it), I decided to check the pinion on my high torque starter, see image below .. https://i.postimg.cc/QKhzs5rC/IMG-20221128-110049903-HDR.jpg It's got practically no lead in chamfer so I'd prefer ...

Re: My year with my Lola-Porsche 2022
I still think that waveform off the inductive pick-up looks fine. Reckon the box just wasn't designed correctly to work with it. Supplier could have been more transparent about the whole issue imho.

Great post Graham. Terrific result as well after all the ignition woes. You stuck at it where I would have spat my dummy out .

Re: Mashed flywheel ring gear
Had a very similar issue on my 2.0 car with 901 gearbox. The teeth (integral to flywheel) and been completely chewed away. Concluded that maybe the starter hadn't been disengaging properly, but never entirely sure. Swopped the flywheel and starter, put it back together and forgot about it. Now I'm t...

Re: Rear Camber
Many thanks Graham and Gary. I'm following your suggestions for eccentric and clamping bolt nuts just nipped while adjusting. Also setting camber eccentric first and then toe. Just can't seem to reduce the excessive negative camber very much :-? . Think I'll take for a short run, let things settle o...

Rear Camber
Hi All, Noticed my car is running too much rear negative camber (about -2.5 deg each side). Rear toe is spot on. Car is running 195 x 65 x 15 tyres on 6 x 15 rims rear and 5.5 x 15 front. Adjusting the camber eccentric doesn't seem to bring about much of a reduction. I'm aiming for about 1 deg negat...

Re: 8000 rpm/300 bhp 3.2 rebuild
Sorry to read the woeful reply you received from Clewett. None of the responses seem logical or even honest imo. I don't understand why they don't just come clean and do their level best to help you out. Their denials and subterfuge kind of makes you suspect they're hiding something. Maybe they're t...

Can't help with where to buy the Porsche tool but never had any trouble using a generic sykes pickavant valve spring compressor.

Re: 12 plug distributor without advance control?
Had wondered this myself so had a google. Most plausible answer I could find (from eng-tips.com) was because typically at around 3000 rpm the turbulence increases burn rate to an extent that no further advance is required. Swirl/tumble and squish is the best way to speed up the burn rate, therefore ...

Re: 12 plug distributor without advance control?
Agree with Mike. Most cars seem to be almost fully advanced by 3krpm. Also, alot of competition engines run fixed advance. This certainly the case with my Lotus 22 which has the Lucas distributor centrifugal mech disabled. Idea being that you simply set it with fixed 30deg advance.

Re: 8000 rpm/300 bhp 3.2 rebuild
Hi Graham, Really enjoyed meeting up yesterday despite the disappointment of not making much progress. Thanks to Mrs 911hillclimber too for keeping us fed :). At least we verified clean waveforms from the VR speed sensor all the way to the XDI input connector. We also proved that supply voltage dip ...

Re: 8000 rpm/300 bhp 3.2 rebuild
Sounds good. You should see voltage fluctuations from the sensor using a multimeter, just by moving something ferrous near the sensor face.
