Re: Assessing an unknown engine

Can you split a case without removing the pistons? Will the case move pass the stuck piston? Sent from my 22011119UY using Tapatalk Yes, but at this point you can pull the circlips out, knock the gudgeon pins through and pull them off. Possibly. The crank's at 90 degrees so some are alongside each ...

Re: Assessing an unknown engine

quite looking forward to seeing the condition inside My money's on damage within the cam drive system because those pistons have hit valves and the cam nut probably got tightened. Maybe some bent and broken teeth on the IMS drive? The crank rocks back and forwards a few degrees suggesting to me som...

The piston isn't stuck. All barrels now off. Something within the case is stopping the crank from turning.

Re: 1987 3.2 Carrera Backdate project - Sladeys hotrod

A quick way to prove if it is fuel related and not ignition is to spray some easy start into the air box, it should cough or splutter if the ignition system is good. I'm not so sure easy start is the way to go because I've a hunch it will spontaneously combust under compression, thereby not ruling ...

Re: Assessing an unknown engine

Not being one to give up easily, I returned to the last stubborn cylinder after 24 hours soaking in transmission fluid and carb cleaner. In a rare moment of lucidity I realised the seized piston couldn't be restricting the crank's movement, because I could tap the cylinder up and down on the piston ...

You say you have fuel pressure and no smell of fuel, so the injectors aren't receiving a signal. I'd focus on confirming that fact.

Re: 1987 3.2 Carrera Backdate project - Sladeys hotrod

First off, check all connectors are well-seated and retry starting. Then check all fuses, especially fuel system and ecu. Then fill a petrol can and empty the contents into the tank, and retry. Confirm that you checked spark on the plug lead not on the centre lead. Confirm that you earthed your timi...

Speaking as somebody who owned a few flying toys as a kid, this is a lot of work for something that's going to get stuck in a tree.

Great work - keep moving forwards!

I thought you were originally asking for a set of 90mm pistons & barrels for a 2.2L not a 2.4 ?
Yes, sorry my bad now edited. (Same pistons tho I think;)

Here are the calcs

Re: Good usable 90mm pistons & cylinders wanted

Do you realise that if fitting 90mm pistons you'll end up with quite a low compression ratio ? ok I did some calcs and notionally the 2.7 pistons must be 1.908mm shorter than the 2.2 pistons. That assumes the cylinder heads are the same (anybody know the truth of that?) If the heads are indeed the ...

Re: Cobra Classic seats: opinions sought

I have that style of seat in my 3.2 hot rod, which to be fair has 10 inch tyres on the back and eight on the front so it creates quite a bit of lateral G. Even if I throw the car around a bit, they hold me very nicely, and they're comfortable, but I notice they don't hold the top half of my body as ...

Re: Assessing an unknown engine

Fair enough, that’s broken! Slipped timing chain maybe? Valves may look ok but probably warrant replacement. I'm trying to think if the two broken pistons were on the tight side. One side cam nut was absurdly tight. Maybe it was so tight they couldn't time it, or maybe as you say, it slipped and ti...
