Re: How are 1970 trims removed without destruction?

You need to prise the rubber out to gain access to the fixings. If the rubber has perished you will probably end up damaging it when you remove it. The "rubber" is like black oak (and about a foot shorter than it started out!) I could cut the rubber I guess. Is it possible to get new Rubb...

How are 1970 trims removed without destruction?

Talking about this side trim here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/yP4UenBWWYKRQ3167 There's a screw at one end which allows me to free one end and then lever it, but it's going to break rather than come off. That screw is only accessible because the black granite-like material which runs along the middle...

Re: 3.2 Carrera UK emissions fail

Change in engine note. Spray carb cleaner around each intake joint, if the idle speeds rises/smooths out for a few moments then you have a leak. I have a leak. The fluctuating became much more accentuated and then stalled. Also the spray looks like it's getting sucked in and out. I posted elsewhere...

Indicator stalks - sensitive to positioning?

Continuing to get my 1970 911T ready for its first MOT; the indicator stalks only turn the indicators on when in exactly the right position. It's easy to push them past the spot where the indicators are on. Is this a standard feature and/or should I make some change to make them turn on reliably in ...

Everything's recently done. Just looks like one came loose and blew its gasket so I was just going to check the torque on the other side. Apparently they often end up looser than spec one way or another.

Does the left 3.2 Carrera intake manifold remove quickly?

I likely need to replace the six gaskets on the left hand side. This guy basically disassembles the whole mainfold assembly: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVLkAfPUc-w I imagined undoing the 6 flange nuts and a couple of other bits to free the centre and lifting the entire left hand manifold assemb...

Re: How to stop fumes in cabin?

Depending on your MOT guy even if the hoses are removed the damaged/rusty heat exchangers may still be a fail. Hopefully he isn't aware of them and passes it. You need to get under the car and follow where the heat exchangers enter the sills/chassis. You will find a length or flexi hose about 6&quo...

are they removeable? Squeeze the sticky-out bit with pliers?

Re: 3.2 Carrera UK emissions fail

Searching for a vacuum leak I found a perished pipe. This is on the "vacuum limiter", right? Two pics here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/nna7GWkhfRtXsKTT6 Those clips look crimped. Anyone know what I have to order there in the way of hose and clips, and do those clips just squeeze off? I had ...

Re: 3.2 Carrera UK emissions fail

I’m with Chris on this having had hunting at idle on my 3.2. Replace the gaskets (12) and also the plastic spacers (6). As Nige says, spray some carb cleaner at each of the joints between head and manifold. Alternatively, get a smoke machine (I home brewed one) and test for leaks that way. Good luc...

Further evidence re hunting 3.2 engine and mysteries...

Here's a video of the 3.2 engine hunting at idle: https://photos.app.goo.gl/yJ1vFK3Eic1p2B6r6 This is a higher mileage car than the 2.2T and it's set up for track use, so it's entirely feasible it could be in worse condition I guess. Also we have a few mysteries in these photos... https://photos.app...

How to stop fumes in cabin?

On Mike Bainbridge's advice I ran the 1970T for 5-10 minutes this p.m. and as he predicted it might, the smoke eventually cleared - which was a great result! However the cabin was completely full of smoke despite the doors and windows being closed. I intend to drive this car to its MOT next week wit...

Re: What's the deal with 1970 seatbelt mounts?

Dave O'connor AKA Stretch on here is the resident seatbelt guy. Produces lovely restored original Repa belts. On my 1970 I have retractor belts made up from original Repa static lap and diagonal belts with new period correct webbing from Stretch. The retractor reel is mounted low on the inner sill ...
