Re: Door adjustment tips needed please

A small update guys, and an important question - is the 'ideal' doorbottom-to-sill gap supposed to be 4 or 6 mm please? If you remember, I was trying to get my door forward a couple of mm, to help close huge door-to-wing gaps, but there were no shims on the top hinge so difficult to move it forward ...

Re: Recaro Comfort Seats - Pricing Assistance Required

I think its a difficult one too. The condition looks to be good in general, but the springs are probably no good (are they?) and there seems to be enough damage to the vinyl to require completely recovering, in addition to new springs. We can't see the teeth on the recliners - are there any missing?...

Re: Door adjustment tips needed please

Dont use a piece of steel and try to form it as you go.Make the exact shape you need so once its clamped you just have to weld it.re the "knife edge" it will need some filler which will add to thickness obviously if you weld flush to the back of the door edge, the filler should build up t...

Re: Door adjustment tips needed please

Blocking the sill it is then !! I was only supposed to be doing the 'front' of this car; now I'm all the way back to the door latches!! At least now a have a plan to move forward that doesnt include (yet) welding my lovely new wings, so thanks to everyone for persisting with advice and opini...

Re: Door adjustment tips needed please

Ive looked at the picture of the rear quarter & door again. Are those panels wobbly or is it my imagination? Im not happy that you doing all this adjustment work on a shell that is still painted. We dont know if its covered in buckets of filler. If you have a DA Id sugest at least getting the pane...

Re: Door adjustment tips needed please

Id machine the hinges, or run a small fillet of plate along door edge and tig it.The advantage with this option, is that you get to grind it for a perfect fit. Hi Coomo, I am coming round to the idea of adding material to the door because this might solve all my problems and my TIG skills are prett...

Re: Door adjustment tips needed please

The other method I’m aware of for a small adjustment of a high sill is to put a long block of oak or similar down it’s length on the outer flange then using the larger of your fettling sticks to apply a vertical ‘tap’ Hey Gary, would you do that to your car!? :alien: Luckily, I'm not too bov...

Re: Door adjustment tips needed please

Any good body shop will tweet these for you. Imho the 911 is nothing special, much the same as many cars of its years. Suggest a classic car shop more than a modern body shop. I really dislike machining the hinges. I used to design door hinges and latches in the late 80s and the crash tests we did ...

Re: Door adjustment tips needed please

Any pics? What’s the door gap to the 1/4 panel? As per Graham’s suggestion if that’s right then to close the gap to the wing (if it’s as far back as it will go) you need to build up there edge of the door. If the gap to the quarter is too tight then yes controlled violence to the pillar maybe requi...

Re: Door adjustment tips needed please

Thanks both! This thread is a follow-on from my recent OEM wing fettling thread. The rear wings and lock panels are both fixed in place, and both doors tops are flush to the rear wing tops. The LHS sill seems to be high because the bottom door gap is only one or two mm, and the latch panel has been ...

Re: Door adjustment tips needed please

Thanks Coomo, I didnt understand your suggestion about using big washers, but I'll slacken the bolts off and see if I can get an improved gap compromise. You can imagine that I absolutely dont want to put a bead on my brand spanker OEM wings - I think I would rather live with large gaps!! The thing ...

Door adjustment tips needed please

Hi guys, :alien: :cyclops: Before I dive in, can anyone please give any tips/guidance on door adjustment - this is something I have never done before? The door seems to be about 3 to 4 mm too proud at the front edge (reference to the sill), and about 2 mm too far forward (door gap at latch end of ab...

Re: 68 front

I have had a few different Restoration Design parts from Roger Bray, including a very well fitting battery support panel. Good prices too, considering how much the Euro reseller of the same parts charges..... sounds like its too late this time around....
