1987 3.2 Carrera Backdate project - Sladeys hotrod

I’m guessing so This is what the cam looks like https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240415/e5f8dff6d0d020d694bdf7a57348c376.jpg Anyhoo even if it is a problem it isn’t today’s (or this month or next month’s) problem. Had a good day on it today just putting stuff back together and making sure everythi...

Re: 1987 3.2 Carrera Backdate project - Sladeys hotrod

Thanks Jason - much appreciated. Rob I took the cam cover off to check for anything untoward. The wear on the cam lobe seems ok. From memory I think the rocker arms are the softer metal but if it’s wearing through there I couldn’t see it without a further strip down. No swarf in that area or in the ...

Re: 1987 3.2 Carrera Backdate project - Sladeys hotrod

I forgot to write about the stud that caused this whole thing! This went in OK. The stud was supplied with loctite already applied to it which was useful. I screwed it in by hand but it just kept on screwing in so to keep it at the right depth I popped a bolt in from the other side https://uploads.t...

Re: 1987 3.2 Carrera Backdate project - Sladeys hotrod

I’m not sure if I mentioned it the other week but I re-torqued all the head bolts. I say re-torqued but actually all I did was check that they were torqued correctly - nothing was loose - the torque wrench just clicked out every time. I now wanted to set the tappets - I’m not sure if I’ve done this ...

Re: 1987 3.2 Carrera Backdate project - Sladeys hotrod

I can’t believe what a meal I made of this. First I took my time making sure everything fitted OK - cleaning out some of the threads with a tap https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240414/73478604b183cca862bad51be55598fa.jpg And then it was all screwed in place. Then I went to fit the grey shroud exte...

Re: 1987 3.2 Carrera Backdate project - Sladeys hotrod

Then it was time to actually fit the alternator. I was back and further with this over and over again because I wanted it to be spot on. First I wasn’t sure where the earth was meant to go (two terminals are named, but it’s not obvious what the third one is) - when I looked at the manual on the webs...

Re: 1987 3.2 Carrera Backdate project - Sladeys hotrod

OK so time for a bit of an update In my mind, once I’d sorted the earth cable that was the new alternator sorted. However I’d forgotten about the replacement power cable as well - they supply a thicker power cable leading straight to the starter motor. So I had to work out where that was going to go...

Any news on the Pirelli 215/60r15

I do wish someone would let me know if Pirelli are making the 215/60 again.

It would really make my week.

Re: Front bonnet & engine lid struts ...

I doubt this will be of interest but I have a couple of really nice self-locking struts (from rennline IIRC) but they are aluminium and carbon. I suppose you could spray the carbon black. They are nicely made - the bonnet locks open and then lifting it slightly unlocks it With my AC they will no lon...
