Re: 1987 3.2 Carrera Backdate project - Sladeys hotrod

Thanks for the responses everyone. Just FYI this is the top of the rennline tool https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240602/0f274b8c4ad13642a2e92b58a7cd0eab.jpg You pick any one of the 3 plain lines and move the brass marker in line with that. Then you turn the dial anti-clockwise until the next 0.1m...

Excellent. Always a great feeling when you finally find and fix a problem. FYI - when you wind the adjuster past the contact point you are opening the valve, so the increase in tightness you can feel is the pressure of the valve spring against the adjuster. 1987 3.2 Carrera Backdate project - Sladeys hotrod

Today has been a good day. IT LIVES!!!!!! So I did the tappets today and really took my time with them. I also ordered the rennline adjustment tool to make sure I was adjusting them accurately. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240601/4ac6cec61887ce252678c11dc660d0e8.jpg Even with the benefit of th...

Re: Road Tripping to the Pyrenees

I agree with everything James said. He also did an awesome job of organising the unorganisable rabble that we are. Jack’s Spanish was really useful and probably helped by the fact that he learned his Spanish in South America which coupled with his swarthy appearance gave him an “Escobarian” air whic...

Re: 1987 3.2 Carrera Backdate project - Sladeys hotrod

Yes that’s what is consoling me as well. Like I said I’m not going to have a chance to get on with it until the weekend but I just popped out and took a pic of the adjusters Right hand bank are all pretty level But the left hand exhaust ones, not so much https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240528/f8e...

I did but that was on number 3 IIRC

Had a family week-end so won't get onto it again until the coming weekend

Got a rennline adjuster tool on the way as well

Re: 1987 3.2 Carrera Backdate project - Sladeys hotrod

Ok so when I did the tappets when the engine was out I was in a quandary about finding TDC. I’ve got the Z1 mark on my pulley so that’s fine it’s just that I can’t easily tell if it’s on the compression or exhaust stroke I don’t have a distributor any more so using the position of the rotor arm is a...

Thanks Tim. However they actually are new spark plugs. That soot is after two trips of about 5 miles.

Out of interest what hotter plugs did you switch to?
