Good lord! 40 deg advance!, I'm surprised you didn't damage the engine! 30 deg advance should be the max. Try the following - 1) set air bypass(s) to 1 turn out. 2) warm up the car, then adjust the timing, but check it at 3000 rpm, then you know the distributor has reached full advance. 3) assuming ...

Hi Guys, with your idle (mixture?) screws wound out so far, you will be seriously running a rich mixture, which will either cause the car to rev, or foul your spark plugs,i.e too much fuel at low revs will stifle the engine. Trying each screw in turn, wind the mixture screw in until you get the engi...

Hi all, if a oil is say 10W-40, then regardless of make, it should have the same viscosity! If the seals leak after putting in 'synthetic' , it is because it has more powerful cleaning agents in it, which cleans all the grunge caking your oil seals that has kept the usual oil at bay, and hey presto ...

Exhaust Hanger for 914

Has anyone got the metal bracket that attaches to the back of the gearbox and upon which mounts the exhaust?

It's to fit the Robster mobile - 914 2.0L 1974 (must be for the early 2.0L exhaust with twin outlets on each heat exchanger..)

Best regards

Hi Mark, bit of an odd one that.... I have a 914 2.0L and it takes approx 10mins to warm up, but I have a deep sump kit, so there is an extra 1.5 L of oil to warm up! So long as the engine doesn't overheat, then you have no problem there. As for the accelerator issue, it sounds like as the engine wa...

Better late than never..

If the car idles ok, but missfires on acceleration, and runs out of steam, it sounds like... Blocked main jet - with engine off pull off air cleaner and push throttle open to max . You should see fuel squirt into the carb throats. If you see nothing come out of one of the throats then sounds like a ...

Regulator woes

Yep, lightweight 911 is absolutely right. Your regulator is goosed. The regulator limts the charge current that is fed into your battery. Too much current accelerates the chemical reaction in the battery, and hence basically boils the electrolyte in the battery. worst case scenario is that the batte...
