I'm with Nige. If you have a 912E, this is the same engine (as near as damn it) as a 2.0l 914... Bottom end (crank etc) is very strong. Valve guides and piston rings wear with high mileages. The valve relies on seating in the head for cooling, so if your valve guides wear, less contact = they run ho...

I'm probably being a bit unfair, as there was a few very cool beetles. I particularly liked an old school beetle in gulf colours with black 5 spoke racing mags that was very cool. Also Tom had got in with his 356 (silver, lowered on fuchs with stripped out interior - superb). And i suppose it was a ...

Dubs in the park - Bracknell
On sunday, I decided to go to the aforemetioned VW show and spread the gospel that is DDK. Spent the morning polishing up the Robster mobile. Turned up and they wouldn't let the car in! They also wouldn't let a smart early 911 2.2. in either! Went into the show. Only a handful of true 'show cars'. y...

Hi chaps, it was great to meet everyone on the Saturday - thanks for listening to my inane ramblings! having seen the work that Barry had to do to bring his car to the excellent machine it is today, I for one would nominate him for a Knighthood! whoops
Sorry chaps - ignore previous mail... 914-6 has completely different number of splines and will not retro fit to any other car. it is pre 1972 & post 1972 914-4 steering wheels that have the same number of splines but different spline lengths as they have different steering column designs.... My...

Hi chaps, on older car go for 10W-40, 15W-40 or 20W-50. (this means- acts as a 10W oil when cold (thinner), and 40 at high temperature) higher the number, the 'thicker' the oil. Don't use 0W-30 (too thin for the clearances in an older car) Don't use synthetic, unless your engine has been recently re...

Hi David, for the record, my 914 shows 12 v at idle. The alternator starts charging at @ 2000 rpm, and then the volt meter shows 13.8v with no extra load. with full lights in this dips to about 11.5V, so I would suggest that you have a dodgy earth, or your lamp holders may be corroded. (don't forget...

Hi Boomy, Rule of thumb is Bluish smoke is oil smoke. White smoke is condensation. If it only does it on start up, and then after it has warmed up, the exhaust is 'clean', then it is probably worn piston rings. When the car is sitting idle, some oil leaks past them and sits in the combustion chamber...
