I remember that there was (is?) a company called House of Color, that used to have agents in the UK. All the top customisers seemed to use paint from them.

They used to do some fairly crazy finishes, metal flake, candy (?) flip flop (?).

Hi Kevster, Does the car run cleanly when you rev the engine above 2000 rpm? If so it could be a blocked idle jet in one of your carbs. As the carbs go onto their main jets, the popping goes away....pull them out and give them a good blast with some compressed air (I find the compressed air cans use...

Hi Kevster, I use NGK BP6ES plugs on the Robster mobile. (2.0L). They work great (but then I've never had a spark plug that didn't!). These are recommended. Have you tried giving the car a run, so that the engine is hot, and then try to remove them? I'm wondering if the plugs you have are the wrong ...

Hi Viv, Good to hear from you! I hadn't spotted that there was a meet - I'll check that the 'other half' doesn't have anything up her sleeve, but otherwise I'll be there! It might be in the company hack though as the 914 has no heating. I'm not soft, but I have no means of keeping the windscreen fro...

Cheers Darren, should make for even more fun! Thanks for the heads up on the carbs, I will check them out. I know my Type 4 vw engines, but 911 engines are a bit more of an unknown quantity so I hope you will all be patient with my questions over the next few months! I'll keep everyone posted of my ...

Hi chaps, I am embarking on a new project for the Robster mobile. Engine is 2.7 (1975) Could you tell me... 1) can I use the standard distributor with vacuum advance disconnected if using carbs instead of the CIS injection? 2) Has anyone out there got some good used matching pair of weber 40IDA-3C o...

Hi chaps, for what it is worth, I would go down the VW garage, and ask one of the service bods to plug their diagnostic tool in. That should tell you whats wrong with it and could save a lot of money spent in the wrong direction.... good luck! regards Robster PS my 1.9 Tdi blew it's cooling fans and...

Hi all, many thanks for taking the time to meet up. It was great to meet some old friends and see some new faces. Having followed Dave M's 'new' 914-6 upto Donington, I was gutted to find I had revved the nuts off the Robster mobile to keep up, only to find that as he was running it in, he hadn't us...
