Re: How desirable is the 1974 Carrera 2.7 MFI ?

Here's my view on this car: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/274652398869 I think this is most likely a stolen 1974 Carrera RS 2.7 worth around £200,000 (or £0 if you possess it and are not the owner). The claimed VIN is 911 2500 537 and here's a pic: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51430186661_ed65f...

Re: 3.2 911 engine: mods to give 7600 min red line?

Doh, I hadn't twigged the engine was in a specialist hillclimb car, rather than a road car used for production or modified hillclimbing! The experience with my engine is probably of very limited relevance. However, I do think the 66 911 cam is better low down than the S, yet gives very little away t...

Re: 3.2 911 engine: mods to give 7600 min red line?

Carrillo CP-X Series pistons - https://lnengineering.com/products/cp-carillo/cp-carillo-pistons.html?limit=8 bought as a set with the Nickies from LN Engineering They are quite domed (10.5:1) pistons but I don't think the twin-plug was really necessary because of the CR. It was more a mid-range driv...

Re: 3.2 911 engine: mods to give 7600 min red line?

The power doesn't actually drop off that much until about 6500, which is where we set the red line. The rockers are standard (albeit new) but the valve springs and collets have been upgraded to stop any risk of float without being too hard on the rockers. You can see from the attached table in the B...

Re: 3.2 911 engine: mods to give 7600 min red line?

Again, thank you all for these tech details. Ian, you know the hills, I want torque from , say, 2500 on to a fat red line so I can avoid lumbering through a long '915' gearbox gear change wherever I can. Thus, the purpose of this thinking is to have a simple engine that can be run to 7500 or more a...

Re: 74 911 Targa; Whats it worth

Probably £20kish even for parts, especially if the engine runs and the car basically works. Whether it is worth restoring is another question again. Depending on the exact model, probably not as an investment but as something to make into what you want, maybe.

Re: Hillclimbs/Sprints Get yourself to a proper Drivers' School at a good hillclimb venue or a Sprint one. Good way to spend the day to see if you like it and what is involved. It is not simple but easy to get the basics right. 400-4, what a dream bike! Good advice. Loved both the 400-4 and the 175...

Re: 1972 Honda CB175 Super Sport restoration

This is a great thread - real memory lane stuff for me! Now all I need is someone to do a Honda 400/4 S1 restoration as well!! PS If I bring myself to actually do it, I'm thinking about having my first foray into sprinting and hill climbing in my '82 911 SC Targa next season. Any tips gratefully rec...

This is making me so nostalgic for my old 175. Can't wait to see the end result.

Re: 1972 Honda CB175 Super Sport restoration

Did the CB have a different cam profile? I wasn't so sure. I always put the extra 3bhp down to the twin carbs. If I recall, it was quite easy to break the tacho drive on the end of the camshaft. The drive was quite brittle alloy and if you overtightened the bolts when you refitted the drive you coul...

Re: 1972 Honda CB175 Super Sport restoration

My first proper bike was a 2nd hand M-reg CB175 that I bought in about 1979. Other bikes came and went, but I hung on to the little 175 at the back of my Dad's garage, before eventually selling in about 1995 back to the guy I'd originally bought it from! Bike is pictured here in about 1998 at an ear...

Hello and Happy New Year

Just joined this forum, but had 1982 LHD SC Targa since 2015. Car is a hot rod in the style of an IB '74 Carrera. Pictures taken before fitting sports seats and harnesses.
