Re: Three Five Six - Ideas in Motion

OK so I will try and explain my dashboard for you - its not easy! (interior trim is yet to be decided so I will get to that another day). I want the dash to be super clean looking so I have had the ashtray removed to help with this look. I of course have the speedo and rev counter in the usual spot ...

Re: Three Five Six - Ideas in Motion

Great to see your car. Along with you and Rob, i have the initial pre A that Gary produced. I wonder how many pre A’s he has sold now. Are you having the car built at Garys. What stage is he taking it too. Is the suspension on air, it was seriously low in the early pics, but even then your camber w...

Re: Three Five Six - Ideas in Motion

Thanks James. As the title of this post suggests I am still unsure as to the end look which makes every decision very difficult. In an ideal world I would have decided on a particular look at the start! The only thing I really know is that I don't want to follow the norm - and I want to make the mos...

Re: Three Five Six - Ideas in Motion

As you will all have to do at some point, I had to make some pretty serious decisions about the IVA. I knew I was building this car to be able to pass the IVA but there are different approaches to achieve this. I decided to try and embrace the standard and to build the requirements in to my car with...

Three Five Six - Ideas in Motion

Good morning all, I have been a member of this forum for several years but in that time i have been silent, or even absent, more often than I have been present. Late last year, while visiting SpeedsterClinic, I bumped in to Rob who has a blog on here (Burnt Pig) and it reminded me that I am not doin...

Re: Pre-a 356 Coupe... making it up as i go along!

It’s almost 2 years since I last posted on here, I don’t know where the time has gone!!! The car is still progressing, just very slowly. I will figure out how to get some pictures on here shortly but for today I had an engine question that I thought someone may be able to help with. I am building a ...

Re: Type 1 cylinder heads

Thank you everyone for your help. I did in fact speak to my preferred engine builder over the weekend and he convinced me of the following; 1) The Panchito cylinder head is the best off-the-shelf head on the market 2) If it was a straight decision between the CB 044 Magnum and the Panchito then go f...

Re: Type 1 cylinder heads

Thank you, that helps sooooo much! You are quite right in that the engine i am building is relatively standard/common and that is one of the reasons i chose a 1776 because i believed it was a sensible mix of reliability and performance. I genuinely had no idea about the intake length, and typical me...

Re: Type 1 cylinder heads

I think Limebug, just waiting for Craig to get back to me with the quote. If not it will likely be Afonso as my brother is using them/him to build an engine for his '73 Fastback.

Re: Type 1 cylinder heads

Yes, very fair comments Nige. I think the thing that has made me stop and think more than anything is that i hadn't realised the role the cylinder head could play in moving the power band... i thought this was more to do with the length of the stroke and the cam... but i am more worried about having...

Type 1 cylinder heads

I have found myself in a bit of a pickle and i am not sure what to do for the best... I have been buying engine parts over the last year or so (as i could afford it) and i have almost got everything now. The last thing i ordered was the cylinder heads which were the CB Performance 044 Magnum in a 90...

Re: IVA thread

I have been thinking about the IVA and mostly about the fuel filler and I think I am just going to embrace it, do what I need to do as well as I can and not try and change it back after. So I have been looking at karmann ghia and Porsche fuel flaps (doors) and I am going to try and make a permanent ...

Re: Pre-a 356 Coupe... making it up as i go along!

This weekend i am spraying my engine tin wear. I have got it all in undercoat already and i am going to spray it 'Cast Iron' from spray cans meant for spraying BBQs... I imagine that would be able to withstand the heat from the engine but i actually have no idea if i am being honest. I have also got...
