Re: Black with Black interior 1974 1.7 US import
Just a question, how did you get a 1974 1.7; the 1.7 was 1970 though 73, and the 1.8 in 74 & 75. Is it a mix of years? An error in the for sale description I would think. Looking at the photo, the charcoal filter mounted on the fuel tank is plastic, which makes the 914 a mid-year 1974 model yea...

I'm guessing mine must have been one of the last 1.7 and was registered in 74?davep wrote:Just a question, how did you get a 1974 1.7; the 1.7 was 1970 though 73, and the 1.8 in 74 & 75. Is it a mix of years?

Re: Black with Black interior 1974 1.7 US import
Suggest you work on the basis that nothing is scrap until you have a replacement part in hand. Take triple the number of photos you think you need, and have a good selection of zip loc bags and permanent marker for storing parts. My 914 also has a habit of letting air out of its tyres - it must be ...

Hi Darren
Thanks for the info I'm going to strip the interior over the next couple of weeks so hopefully be able to see most of those areas.
Love the pic lol

Re: Black with Black interior 1974 1.7 US import
Why were the bumpers scrap? They look OK from the pics but can see any detail really. I 'might' sell mine as I've just acquired some fibreglass bumpers to reduce the weight on my car The front bumper was badly dented where the drivers side overriders is and also had some rust. The rear bumper looks...

Re: Black with Black interior 1974 1.7 US import
Looking at your original photo, did you buy it from Beverley Hills Car Club? Looks like their usual flooring. Yes I brought from Beverly Hills Car Club it was up for $5000 I knocked them down to $3000 and at the exchange rate at the time (pre Brexit) that worked out at £2050 which I didn't think wa...

Re: Black with Black interior 1974 1.7 US import
Thanks for the tips LMR I think I'm best going down the same route as you stripping the car and buying parts as and when I need them. I've a good friend who built a VW show car and had a lot of his original parts plated and powder coated so will get his contacts as I know he didn't pay a lot for the...

Re: Black with Black interior 1974 1.7 US import
Wow you have surprised me I that there are so many as you never see any on the road. I'd be well up for a curry night and meeting some other owners. I'll be going to Stanford Hall do you mean the show on the 30th April? LMR where did you get the purple/pink heads you used to strip the paint? On the ...
