Re: Rebuilding 356 or early 911 reclining seat hinges

any pics of the spring tool in action ? I’ll take a photo and once it finds its way to Flicker I’ll post it. You need a 15mm diameter steel bar about 6” long with a 300 mm Tommy bar in one end and a slot in the other to accommodate the end of the spring. Cut the slot shallow enough to hold the end ...

Re: Rebuilding 356 or early 911 reclining seat hinges

In the end we made a tool to wind up the centre of the spring and screwed the hinge to the work bench so it couldn’t move.

All back together with nice shiny and expensive chrome. Oil change done Mobil 1 10W60 and just have to adjust passenger side window to reduce wind noise.

Rebuilding 356 or early 911 reclining seat hinges

I’m in trouble. My driver’s side seat hinge failed, completely worn out and cracked. I bought another in good order but needing rechroming from ever helpful Karman Konnection. I disassembled it and had it rechromed at vast expense and am now struggling to refit the very strong spring that returns th...

Re: Quieter Weber Carbs

Late 912s had air silencers and better filters than the earlier Knecht.

I’d track some down and see if you can adapt them.

I agree on noise. 356s are very noisy, I’ve been meaning to do the same for mine.

Re: Non-Porsche Hot Rod picture of the day

Here’s the 1934 5 window coup low boy. It’s a genuine early fifties Hotrod that featured in the magazines of the day. It was one of the first to get a Hemi and so amongst the fastest. It’s being restored to original but built properly so that it’s safe. Most hot rods and customs are of the time we’r...

Re: Marketplace for my hot-roddy-resto-moddy-ex-T

Surely you watched aTop Gear where the team bought three old supercars, took them to Castle Combe and got them all soundly heated by a Turbo diesel Astra. Most modern cars handle extremely well and corner fast than oldies. We all know that, but we still love oldies. This ting has a GP engine and mig...

Re: Marketplace for my hot-roddy-resto-moddy-ex-T

Fraid so. My chum doesn’t drive his 964 for the same reason. He was surprised how much better my Boxster was when he drove it. Absolutely. There’s no shame on getting old. Wait til he tries a Kia Ceed. They’re super economical and the radio has lovely big buttons. [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23] My son...

Re: Marketplace for my hot-roddy-resto-moddy-ex-T

That looks a lovely car, I do hope it finds an appreciative home. I must admit that although I love driving my 356C, the 981 is the one I use most simply because it’s rides and drives so beautifully. Basically Ashley that’s why I’ve changed my stable over the past couple of years - switched from th...
