stripped off the head and barrels on side 1& 2. silky smooth bores and lots and lots of vertical lines. bugger.

Re: engine squeal
I took off the head and barrels from side 1 & 2. The bores are silky smooth with lots of vertical lines. not scratches. the rings have done less than 5000 miles.

Re: engine squeal
Today I'll be stripping down the side of 1 & 2. to inspect the barrells.
All sorts of attempts to find the noise have failed. i'm hoping it's a barrell / piston issue. if not i think it will be a main bearing.

I've ruled out the fan rubbing. not a single mark on it or the case.

engine squeal
I've had a squeal coming from the engine for a while. it's usually at low revs or when accelerating from stand still. I thought (hoped) it was the alternator belt but it isn't. It sounds like dry metal on metal. The only thing i can think of is piston rings scraping. I don't have loss of power or mu...

Re: brake caliper parts
I found just the plates themselves. The part number below are for a 2.0 1974. as usual some parts are the same but some differ. if your car is different please check to confirm. These are available from porsche themselves. i bought 2 front and 2 rear for £28. front clips 90135191616 rear clips 31161...

brake caliper parts
after the recent binding rear brake i've refreshed the caliper and refitted it today. However the spring clips that sit on top of the pads and held in place by the pins through the pads has seemingly become weak and is no longer pushing the pads apart. I've found a full set on design 911 at £38. Any...

Re: What did you do in/on/for your Porsche today?
I finally got around to repairing the push rod tube seals and fitting the retaining spring. will be doing the other side next weekend.
Hopefully i can then go for a trouble free drive again.
It's had its butt in the air since july 22!!!

Re: What did you do in/on/for your Porsche today?
after mashing my door mirror even more when the push rod tubes blew out i thought I'd have a look. Stripped it down and beat it up a bit. Really pleased with the outcome. couple of little dink marks that you need to look closely for. Just need to have a mooch around halfords for something i can cut ...

Re: blown push rod tubes
Thanks for all the info. I rebuilt the top end 4 years ago, using what was fitted. There's no retainer wire. I had the engine on a bench and put the heads on after the tubes were seated in the crank housing. Lesson learned. do more research! Nice little fix for me to put right. ordered some loctite ...
