I doubt it is the immobliser - it was fitted before I bought the car, and I never once had the problem you've described.

I deliberately took it there for its MOT because they're thorough and I wanted to make sure all the recent brake work had been done to a reasonable standard. I probably could have got a pass at one of the 'dodgier' local garages but don't reckon it's worth the risk on a car that age. It's going off ...

Well, I had my car back with its newly overhauled brakes for the princely sum of one day before it had to go back into the garage for its MOT.
