Re: Timesert installation seems to have led to an oil leak!
I don’t think that has happened as the torque on Porsche cylinder head nuts is so low. Admittedly magnesium alloy is about as tough as toffee but I don’t think that will be the case. On the 2.7 the copper sealing ring is narrow and even has indents for the head studs. Add in the loss of mating flang...

Re: Timesert installation seems to have led to an oil leak!
Thanks for the positive suggestions from Peter K and 911hillclimber. I will look into both of these. As the timeserts are installed slightly down from the mating surface I was thinking about using chemical metal and a file to bring this back up and increase the mating surface. Hadn’t thought of addi...

Timesert installation seems to have led to an oil leak!
Has anyone experienced this? I had all 24 studs timeserted on my. 1973 2.7RS replica. The copper sealing ring is narrow on the 2.7 but now that the holes are expanded to take the timeserts the sealing surface becomes wafer thin. It seems that one of the cylinders is now spilling oil onto everything ...

Re: Fuel Hose Replacement
I know this relates to fuel hoses and ethanol but the replacement hoses in general seem poor. In my opinion it is not worth reusing the hoses that feed the camshafts nor the S shaped one from the oil cooler to the oil tank nor the one from the oil tank to the engine. They are all rubbish after only ...

Re: Problems fitting a replacement 915 gearbox
Having found that the 108mm flanges on my driveshafts do not fit the later gearboxibought and tried to fit the later 100mm flange. These have six 8mm bolts instead of the earlier 4 larger bolts nd two dowels. Even though these new parts fit the gearbox unfortunately they do not fit the existing driv...

Re: Problems fitting a replacement 915 gearbox
Many thanks Ian.
Since my post I see that there is a new product out which gives me just the later 6 bolt cv joint and flange. Tempted to get these but waiting to find out if the splined shaft remained unchanged after 75. Hoping someone will k ow the details.

Problems fitting a replacement 915 gearbox
Hi My 915 gearbox from my 1974 911 is very worn and a friendly Porsche specialist sold me a later 915/61 gearbox. Although this has an electronic speedo feed I was prepared to make do. I replaced the earlier clutch actuator shaft and fork and fitted the gearbox without problem so it is now in the ca...

Re: Any experts on setting the timing on CIS cars?
Many thanks Strictly. Will have another look this W/e. Strange about the vacuum leak being responsible for the idle screw not being functional. I have recently replaced every seal on the intake system including injector seals etc and yet nothing has really improved. At idle vacuum is very weak and t...

Any experts on setting the timing on CIS cars?
Hi Have been around this endless loop of trying to set the ignition timing on my 74 2.7CIS many times without much confidence. No longer believe that idle should be 5degrees ATDC. Wondering if current fuel changes things? My car runs much better with timing more advanced and I can’t push it back bey...

Re: Engine rebuild on Mag Case 2.4MFI
Yes I suspect that my butterflies seat OK as well.
There is a groove where it comes to rest on the throttle body but it has gradually worn the body away and looks as though even with the even wear it will seat/seal etc.
I see most throttle bodies are made out of ABS nowadays.

Re: Engine rebuild on Mag Case 2.4MFI
Have had a busy month working so not much progress but now that is over I am back at it. I have had the heads rebuilt at the machine shop including new guides throughout (they often split and mushroom out) and new inlet valves. The exhausts were fine but strangely only the inlets showing significant...

Re: Engine rebuild on Mag Case 2.4MFI
I think my 90mm cylinders are as original. Certainly my old 2.4 cast iron set had a step.
Any ideas on my oil pump- see photos added before.
Many thanks

Here are some images of my case after machining and cylinders No steps on the outside of these. https://i.imgur.com/eHU3doqm.jpg https://i.imgur.com/QqBNlXLm.jpg Here is the inside of my oil pump showing both halves. Does anyone have an opinion on this? There is no scoring, no wear on the end plates...
