Bad Compression on 5th cylinder

I posted here a few weeks ago that I was looking at buying an early hotrod with an 78SC transplant, but had concerns about the engines lack of history, In the end I walked away from it and found another car, this time with a 2.7RS in the back. It seemed like a very solid build from a reputable shop ...

Re: 1978 3.0 from a 911SC - 80K miles - what potentional iss

The seller says there's case sealer on the engine so he suspects it's been rebuilt at some point. Would that imply a bottom end rebuild then? Um, unknown. There are two ways you can look at this. First is to assume the worst, rip the engine apart and do a full rebuild. Expensive but you know there ...

Re: 1978 3.0 from a 911SC - 80K miles - what potentional iss

Thanks Ian. It's good to know what I might be getting myself into. The seller says there's case sealer on the engine so he suspects it's been rebuilt at some point. Would that imply a bottom end rebuild then? To his credit, he's been exceptionally forthcoming about the history of the engine, in that...

Re: 1978 3.0 from a 911SC - 80K miles - what potentional iss

Thanks everyone for the replies, all good stuff to ask about. The car's a SoCal car, so I'm not too concerned about rust - that said, I'll get it checked out on the PPi. My mechanical knowledge isn't great, so while I can point at something and know what it is the internal workings of a flat six are...

1978 3.0 from a 911SC - 80K miles - what potentional issues?

It's been a very long time since I've posted here, but I'm looking to finally scratch the itch again and get another early Porsche. One car I'm interested in is an early hotrod that's had a 1978 3.0 from a 911SC transplanted into it. The seller has told me the guy he bought the engine off said it ha...

I prefer LHD. You can rest your left leg against the door and I read somewhere that they're made with a different metal than the RHD cars that takes longer to turn to rust.

Hi Martin.

The honest answer is I'm not sure. It's sold as a 65-68 so I'm presuming it's for short wheelbase cars (are swb and lwb dashes different???). From the sound of it your car is lwb.

It's for a LHD by the way, I forgot to mention that slighlty important piece of information.

Thanks
John.

Prices for separate components

No interest in the whole package so I've decided to advertise all the bits separately.

Pioneer head unit - £180
Pioneer speakers - £30 for the pair
Pioneer ipod adaptor - £40
Alpine active bass - £50 - SOLD
moch-1 underdash speaker shelf - £70

Thanks
John.

Modern Stereo set up for 65-68 911 - SEPARATED

I've decided to sell the complete stereo set up I had in my 68S as it's just gathering dust in my Dad's loft and I have no idea when, or where, I'll be getting another 911. I'd only just finished getting all the components together a couple of months before I sold the car so some of it is virtually ...

Nice photos Paul.

I didn't make it, but my brother did with his e9 forum. Not Porsche, but beautiful nonetheless (as a small point of Trivia, 8 of the 11 UK registered CSLs were there).

I took two Lambo Gallardo's off the lights at the same time once on the A40. Me outside lane, Gallardo spider (?) middle and Gallardo coupe inside. I have a feeling they were toying with me as they both let me go then accelerated to take me but had to brake hard for the speed camera that I knew was ...

My first 911's original colour was bahama, my latest is Ossi, all I need is the green one for the set.

Is the Ossi car one of the esses that's going to go back to silver? I've never seen another Ossi car, no matter an S, like my car's older brother.
