Re: Finnish Francesca, 1973 targa resto

Loving the 356 Mike, hope you continue to enjoy. I recently went in a similar direction ('59 A, nice old thing not concours car) and am surprised how much I like it.

Re: MFI throttle bushings and set up

all the ROAD throttle body's have the bushes fitted and never ran in the Mag caseing, Apologies, my fallible memory, please listen to the expert! Yep, my worse set needed skimming to be flat (as well as needing inserts in the throttle bores). As Mike suggests, they were bench tested for air flow in...

Re: MFI throttle bushings and set up

Hi Roger Are these magnesium throttle bodies? I've had a couple of sets of those re-done over the years. As you mention, you are on a hiding to nothing trying to get decent idle if the throttle butterfly is flapping about and failing to seal the bore, due to spindle / bush wear. Or indeed due to wor...

Re: 2 litre 80mm original 80ZD3 Mahle Biral barrel reqd

Think so. I'm currently having a 2L engine rebuilt. Two of my cylinders were in a bad way, and I have got a new full set, so I think I have 4 Birals that might fit the bill. Will ask engine builder to confirm the finer details...

Re: EV conversions and DVLA

Bear in mind that many of the factory-sanctioned continuation models (Lightweight E-Types, Blower Bentleys, etc) cannot be registered in the UK Although that's a rather different case, where a new car is being created from scratch. What could / should its identity be? At least with an EV based on a...

Re: EV conversions and DVLA

Do the public really need such performance for the general use? 0-62 in 4 secs would scare the living daylights out of almost everyone who have been used to 9 or 12 seconds. Better to have 0-62 in 9 secs and 500 mile range/10 min charge or even 5 min charge? Where do all these Teslar parts come fro...

Re: EV conversions and DVLA

Wow, this is going to cause a lot of unsafe conversions. I would really like to know how to properly secure 250kg of batteries without either a welded bracket or a bolted fixing to the chassis. Using factory holes for unintended uses may well be dangerous. I guess G- clamps, lorry straps and velcro...

Re: EV conversions and DVLA

Thanks Keith. Then that kills the whole market in the UK dead? It certainly does not help. However, per other thread on here, it is quite possible to do an EV conversion without cutting, drilling or welding the monocoque or chassis. I sympathise hugely with those who had no idea that this was going ...

Re: Eeee Geee

Trouble is… a sensible person might suggest some form of modified IVA where the original body can be maintained and an assessment of the battery mounting structure + any modifications to suspension & brakes etc. Or something else along those lines. But anything like that would require new legis...

Re: Best workshop manual?…

I assume you know that the parts catalogues ("PET") can be downloaded from Porsche's website? Good for part numbers, obviously, but (in addition to the factory workshop manuals) I find them very useful as an overview of how things fit together. I didn’t no!… this is the kind of info I nee...

Re: Eeee Geee

^ Yep, it’s what I was ranting on about a couple of weeks ago. DVLA have put a whole industry in jeopardy because they have no way of dealing with classic EV conversions. Risky business... It's tempting to push on with the G, with a completely bolt-in solution (which was the intention anyway), and ...

Re: Eeee Geee

And whatever you do don’t drill a hole to mount anything… https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=247&t=2007342 That's a worthwhile tip off! Thanks Gary. It does seem that the 5 points for unmodified chassis, when wishing to keep original reg and avoid the need for IVA, is going...
