Re: Old Sckool 5 cc model Diesel engine build

That's looking great. Not long till you will hear it run. Excellent progress. I (mis) spent a lot of my youth making aeroplanes and playing around with tiny 2 stroke engines. My favourite had belonged to my dad in the late '40s or early '50s and wasa Mills 0.75cc, which went on to power a R/C motor ...

Re: Old Sckool 5 cc model Diesel engine build

Looking good! I'm following with interest! I'd love to take on something like this. It would be a great skill builder. I've got a lathe and a mill, but they are both in bits awaiting the completion of my garage extension (3 years and counting! Builders going bust, Grr.) and I have no real idea about...

Re: Unstamped 356/912/industrial timing cover/3rd case piece please!

I thought that the 356 and 912 3rd pieces were different due to the different engine mounting arrangements in the different cars? Not sure as I haven't seen a 912 up close. Neil Bardsley will know.

Re: Hi, new member, North Yorkshire.

Hi Migor,

I'm inly just into East Yorkshire on the south side of the Ouse.

You probably have the same cylinder heads as me. The ones with the air injection ports? Mine were cracked in the usual place, and I had them welded up. Hopefully they have stayed that way!

Re: 914 : Road Trip to Italy

Looks like a great trip Neil. I took my 997 to the Italian Riviera back in August 2013. One memory was the Autostrada on the way home from Genoa to Milan, where we ended up in convoy with a Milano registered Aston Martin Vantage, which led to 3 figure speeds the whole way. I figured that he would kn...

Re: Members Motorcycles

^^^Thanks!^^^ Its spread all over the garage in a million bits right now. I keep on making it better, then new problems show up, then I have to formulate a fix, then test... I limped it to the end of the last Motogiro in with oil leaks and gear selection problems. The crank case breather is a sprung...

Re: Yamaha YB 1 1999 tidy-up

Absolutely fantastic little bike there, it looks like a classic, but hopefully without any of the inevitably attendant aggro. In other news, I have been looking into events for next year on my F. B Mondial, and the Motogiro D'Italia coincides nicely with a lull in work in the second half of May next...

Re: Yamaha YB 1 1999 tidy-up

The bike is looking great Graham, well up to your usual standard of finish. Don't worry overly about oil quantity in the forks. So long as there's enough in there to keep the bushes and dampers happy. The air space above the oil acts like another spring. The smaller the head space, the stiffer the s...

Hi Boydy.

The door card tops are known, at least in the USA as Garnish Rails. No idea why. I needed the rear ones for my build a few years ago.

Re: Little trip in a Spitfire - no porsche content!

What an excellent write up. Big tick in the life box. Well done. I'm the holder of a lapsed PPL, with complex single and tailwheel endorsements, so I really should look into doing this. The problem is that you can do quite a bit of flying in other people's aeroplanes with an instructor, and get your...

Re: Yamaha YB 1 1999 tidy-up

Looking good. In the pictures it all looks a bit too nice! Did you manage to have a go with Deox Gel? My Mondial has steel wheel rims in poor condition, they have bern rechromed not very well. My wheel size is WM1 1.6 in wide x 19in and 36 spokes. I've managed to track down a pair of NOS in original...

Re: O/T Japanese import vehicle delay registration advice

That's a lovely looking thing. When the finish is up to your usual standards, it will be fabulous. Only just seen this thread now. I've been busy with the innards of my Mondial lately. It made it round the Motogiro D'Italia in May, but had oil retention and consumption issues due to a troublesome cr...

Re: Rust treatment before paint?

I'm a fan of Bilt Hamber Deox Gel. After cleaning everything up as best you can, apply the gel liberally, then cover with cling film and leave overnight. All the brown oxidation turns the gel green. The following day wipe off the gel and you will see shiny silver metal. Treat this with phosphoric ac...
