Re: Burnt Pig - 356 Pre a Build Thread

Rob,

Very exciting. For me it was a really great moment when the dash all lit up, felt like the car was now alive!

Cheers
Richard

Re: Rear garnish rails / mouldings

Rob, i knew he did the front ones (right after i ordered my genuine ones!), but does he do the rear ones too now?

Re: Rear garnish rails / mouldings

Yes i have done that quite a few times going in the wrong direction or buying incorrect stuff, but its part of it really, isn’t it! I bought a full set, front and rear...not cheap. They sort of fit, not sure the body shape is exactly the same below the window so the rear ones dont sit 100% right, bu...

Re: Battery vs spare wheel

Yes, i went for odyssey extreme 30 battery. A good chunk smaller than a lead battery. Its in the car, but i havent finalised its position yet but there are several options that also fit the spare tyre too. It seems to start the car fine and the numbers sounded ample to me, 34amp, 400cca. Not cheap t...

Re: Three Five Six - Ideas in Motion

Southampton is by far my nearest, so i will likely go there. I have heard mixed reports about it. Do double check the smaller independent centres, the ones nearest me don't test the M1 category which is what we need. I did wonder about taking mine to Bournemouth as thats where I assume all the Chesi...

Re: Three Five Six - Ideas in Motion

We have spoken about the IVA quite a bit on here, does anyone have a target month for it? Also is there any concern about changes to the standard in the short to medium term??? Mines been 5 years so far since i started the chassis build, 2 years since i picked body up from gary. Its 100% diy build ...

Re: Three Five Six - Ideas in Motion

Whilst we are on tell tales (hope you don’t mind Adam hijacking your thread). I am not sure i understand the manual when it talks about using icons on or next to tell tales. It specifically says with regard to main beam tell tale that it can be either blue and no mention of icon, or any colour with ...

I’m pretty certain they dont require left and right. I wasnt planning to.
They do however need a seperate tell tale for the hazard operation

Re: Three Five Six - Ideas in Motion

I don't think there is anything wrong with your engine choice or size. But I would say that as mine is a type1 1776 too! Personally I don't need a super fast car. The 1776 has for years been a good reliable better than stock vw engine, plenty fast enough to push a small car along. At 70-80hp its com...

Re: Three Five Six - Ideas in Motion

Yup, i get that idea. Sounds great. For me the pre A dash is as cool a thing as the bent screen. Yeah it is a nightmare planning for both iva and then post iva, i have had to do it in a number of areas and it requires thinking everything through for two scenarios. Quite a pain. I am wiring my dash a...

Re: Three Five Six - Ideas in Motion

Great to see your car. Along with you and Rob, i have the initial pre A that Gary produced. I wonder how many pre A’s he has sold now. Are you having the car built at Garys. What stage is he taking it too. Is the suspension on air, it was seriously low in the early pics, but even then your camber wa...

Re: Burnt Pig - 356 Pre a Build Thread

Great to see more pics, feels like its nearly there. Very exciting! An iva question for you, which i am sure you have thought about....exhaust tail pipes, i was a bit worried about mine, as they stick out a bit, but yours are longer. Theres a bit in the manual where it talks about this (chapter 16 p...

Re: Speedos tachos and iva

I have 356 gauge being driven by front wheel. This will be a problem for iva as they only have driven rear wheel rollers at the test centres so can only confirm speedo accuracy if you have rear driven speedo. Therefore you have to have it calibrated externally before iva. The only way i believe is a...

Re: Battery vs spare wheel

I did get an odyssey battery in the end, a fairly big one, but way smaller than lead acid one. Not cheap though!
