Re: 356 Registry Site

I would say DDK is just right, from the way it’s kind of recommendation only (yet accessible to all), the varied posts and more importantly the people, from all walks of life and with varied interests but united by a common thread! The Registry is indeed in danger of alienating newcomers. A club ful...

356 Registry Site

I’m no longer a member of the registry. I was however, still able to access their website and peruse the odd article. Just tried this morning and now I am being told I “do not have permission”. Has anybody else noticed this phenomenon? One could argue that being so secretive could discourage potenti...

Re: Trans/gearbox rebuild

I suffered an enforced rebuild about 8 years ago. After various warnings I did it myself. I didn’t find it difficult or expensive. Little or no machining work was needed. Best advice I can give is to crack test your diff carrier. Mine was (unbeknownst to me) cracked and caused a catastrophic failure...

Re: Porsche for sale of the day..........

Rather like the old tailors saying “Which side does Sir prefer?”.

Seems plenty are forced to the left, but the right does indeed incur a financial penalty!

Re: Front Shock Absorbers

Ahh but Winston is an accomplished Mud Plugger! To take things to the other extreme, I have to run our early cars with beaded edged tyres at 70 psi, otherwise the beads come loose and the tyre spins as you put the power down ripping out the valve stem from the inner tube! Combine this with no shock ...

Re: Front Shock Absorbers

Mike, interesting about the Skirmants camber compensator working differently to a factory S90 one. Could you elaborate how? When I bought my car it was dragging its ar*e like one of those naughty dogs with a problematic derrière. If you remember you sold me an original compensator which sorted the r...

Re: Front Shock Absorbers

Hey Simon! If you want my set of KYBs you are welcome to them. I didn't throw them away after all, and they are under my bench gathering dust. They are a full set of 4, and look almost new. I didn't like them, but everyone is not the same as me. Mike, I have been giving thought to a Skirmants Cambe...

Re: Front Shock Absorbers

Thanks for all the replies. Some food for thought in there! But to play Devils Advocate, how many of us are quite happily driving around in cars with Shock Absorbers of unknown origin/history?? no one I know or drive with ( talking old Porsche owners ) Think of all the money you are saving whilst B...

Re: Front Shock Absorbers

My car came with KYBs fitted, and they were rubbish. Way too skittish feeling at the front over crests leading the car to feel as though it wanted to wander around at speed. The front toe in was right, so it must have been the shocks, so they had to go. Fitted Konis all round and an immediate impro...

Re: Front Shock Absorbers

Sorry James, no I don’t. That information is not given. Working on the assumption that both are rear engined and some of the 356 suspension components carry the VW logo, I would suspect very similar. Not to mention that a new one must surely feel better than a knackered old one??? Almost worth a pun...

Front Shock Absorbers

Anyone who has tried to buy replacement front shock absorbers has probably wondered why they cost so much, compared to others. Well, a quick comparison reveals that the open and compressed length of a Bilstein is 361mm and 248mm. They’re also about £180 each. Now, an empi one for a lowered link pin ...

Shocked and saddened to read this. He was an absolute legend.
The way his wife describes his final moment is poignant.
