Re: Optima or Traditional Lead Acid?

One big difference I find is that the Optima (any closed battery) doesn't give off fumes. With a regular lead acid battery I often had problems with dirty battery terminals. I've never had a dirty terminal problem with the closed battery.

Re: Advice on rustproofing

I live in a cold, often wet climate (New England in the U. S.) and have owned 356's since 1975. It is my experience that since our cars are not being driven on salted roads and are seldom driven in the rain, the problem today is not what it was in the past. As long as seriously rusted panels have be...

Re: Tall Driver Issue

At 6' 3" I've never had a problem with the more than ten 356's I've had over the years including coupes and open cars. It may be that either the seat track is stuck and not allowing rearward travel, the seats have been "overstuffed" or some other issue.

Re: Stone chip on pre A bonnet

If the paint color is a good match, with patience you hopefully will get a good outcome. I've been told that when wet sanding, use a flat stick behind the sand paper for a better result than if you use your finger. Good luck. TLC

Re: Stone chip on pre A bonnet

Fix it yourself and you'll always see it. Get the right pro and fix it right. Some pro's will want to paint the whole hood/bonnet, but somebody who specializes in chip/scratch repair can fix a small chip so that it will be invisible. Like Ignatzcatz I was able to have a front bumper scratch on a Box...

Re: Gear stick lock key missing

If you have the key number from the Kardex, Zims in Texas can cut one from that number.

Re: Porsche 356A Horn Button - Restoration

While I have never used crazy glue but I have used lacquer thinner on knobs with good results. I suggest you experiment on a small section to see if it works. Other solvents may also be tried. Here are notes from the registry on the knob job. The miracle product is laquer thinner. Take the knob and ...

"Author of German citizenship" stamp in 1954 manual

My 1954 service manual has the stamp "Printed in Germany Author of German Citizenship" only on the separating pages for the "Lights and Electrical System" section and the "Data and Specifications" section. Several people have guessed as to why this was put there so, no ...

Re: Restoration of a 356SC Best battery to buy

Over many years I've tried a variety of batteries and the best are the sealed batteries such as Optima-(Note-they don't appear OEM). The original style batteries don't last as long and I believe they off-gas and cause fouled connections. Before I started with sealed batteries, my car often failed to...

Width between center of wiper spindles

My '55 has them 17.5" apart. It is a left hand drive car and the left hand spindle measures 8.5" from the center of the car with the right at 9". I don't know if this is random or if they offset them depending on which side is the driver's.

Phil: If you read what is written about other cars on BAT, I think you'll find that it relates less to the specific car than to the instant comment ability the internet offers. Allow me to use the analogy that it is best not to get opinions on race horses from wheat farmers. Comments from people qua...
