Re: 1987 3.2 Carrera Backdate project - Sladeys hotrod
Does your system use the original crank position sensor or an aftermarket one on a toothed wheel? Any chance either bracket could be damaged and the distance incorrect so not giving a signal to the ECU?

Re: 1987 3.2 Carrera Backdate project - Sladeys hotrod
One other thought - isn’t it the cylinder head sensor that you loctited in? Any chance of contamination on the tip of the sensor?

Re: 1987 3.2 Carrera Backdate project - Sladeys hotrod
If the 3.2 is the same as the 964 it is not so easy to identify the wires in that connector block by colour as one of the sensors is a 993 part and changed colour. I can’t recall what the 3rd is, but one is CPS, I think the other cylinder head temp sensor for cold cranking I think. I’ve replaced bot...

Re: 1987 3.2 Carrera Backdate project - Sladeys hotrod
From my experience; 1. Jump the DME (jumper lead with 3 male spade connectors) 2. Crank sensor - I don’t know why, but these seem to be made of chocolate these days and I have replaced two within 1k miles 3. Disconnect the ECU and reconnect. I had mine not play a tune for ages and the clamp that dra...

Re: 1987 3.2 Carrera Backdate project - Sladeys hotrod
Def took the right path there - same as with the hydraulic clutch on a Boxster, if pressurised you can either bend the rod out of the slave cylinder or miss the dimple that it sits in. Take the pressure out and you have to bleed it, which is a ball ache, but better than replacing. By the way, for bl...

Re: 1987 3.2 Carrera Backdate project - Sladeys hotrod
Good progress - that alternator wiring is always a bit tight in the shroud - I changed the alternator in situ a couple of times on the 914/6 and it was not fun, and the earth that goes on the case is normally pretty short so doesn’t allow much wriggle room.

Re: 1987 3.2 Carrera Backdate project - Sladeys hotrod
Good work Mark. I would order some high temp loctite to set the stud in place. It’s expensive stuff, so if you have no other use for it I prob have enough left to sort your stud if it helps.
