Re: Unused cable at Voltage Regulator - 1968 912

I don't believe the 912 has a starter relay. I think that on a 911 the yellow cable was to energise a relay to short out the ballast resistor for the coil, ensuring maximum coil voltage during starter turnover. On the 912 you can use the yellow wire to touch on the B+ terminal of the voltage regulat...

Anyone else following Darryl Deppe's collection

I've posted before whether anyone else follows Darryl Deppe and his tribulations with his Porsche collection. The latest update is quite heartening to see him allow a 13 year old rebuild his 914 engine! Good to see skills being passed on. http://www.darrylsgarage.com/914/914.htm Well worth a read th...

Re: Towing with DSG VW auto?

Graham, You mention the automatic handbrake. If you are buying a MkIII Superb make sure it has the hill assist option ( I would say it is a must for towing ). It is the left button below the gear level normally. I believe the handbrake only works automatically on hill assist optioned cars and when s...

Re: Boxster issue...

I had this on my daily driver not too long ago. I was convinced it was a wheel bearing but was in fact feathering / low tread on a pair of my tyres. Changed the tyres and all the noise went away. My observation was that if you went over an undulation the hum would get louder whilst the suspension wa...

Re: Caliper condition opinions

Another thing to consider if using CCA ( or most other restorers ) is that they will remove the knockback mechanism pin from your calipers. Similarly if you buy new pistons you will need to remove the pin yourself. A previous discussion about it here. http://www.ddk-online.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p...

With regard to the how the valet key works there is some further info on 914World here http://www.914world.com/specs/rekey.php

Look out for the discussion of valet wafers in the glovebox and trunk locks.

I believe it is the same synchro ring for gears 1-5. Plenty of stockists sell it including RosePassion https://www.rosepassion.com/en/diagrams-porsche-914-1973-eu-914-4-1-7-manual-gearbox-5-speed/clutch-gearbox-parts-115/pinions-and-shafts-sets-of-pinions-3480/91130230113-p15285-synchroniser-ring-90...

Re: Lock barrel brass tumblers help

If you need a new master key then I have used https://www.keysinthepost.com/ It was a few years ago but the service was great and they weren't very expensive. You send them a photo of one of your keys and they can identify what the tumbler sequence is and remanufacture a 'fresh' key to the code. The...

Re: Hazzard relay NLA

It may be possible to repair it - I have repaired them previously. My technique was to gently saw around the periphery of the can where it meets the base, until the can lifts off. You can then inspect the innards - normally the relay contacts need a clean. Once you are happy it works correctly simpl...
