Re: Tool kit prices

Coming from you Mike that’s a real compliment. My wife certainly thinks I’ve got way too much old Porsche crap on my study shelves

Re: Tool kit prices

I don’t frequent this forum often but just read this thread, I have a complete correct 72 toolkit. Still has the date coded phoenix belt — only component in kit that has a date. The kits bag and components together do point to the year/s fairly accurately. Am currently discussing toolkit with a 72 o...

Long shot but tracing a photographer …

I am trying to locate a photographer called Stephen Wood who took photos of cars racing and sold motorsport videos. The only number* I have for him is (0423) 64274. It’s clearly an old format landline phone number from before BT re-jigged their area codes. I think 0423 might have been somewhere arou...

7045 to H1 transition date

I was in discussing with Mike on another forum about when the 7045 Bosch headlights transitioned to H1 for RHD. I believe it is generally accepted the H1 first appeared (outside USA market) with the model 68 but that year’s 911S only. Several questions from the discussion with Mike: 1) Did the RHD H...

Re: Is it just me, or...

Nothing cliched about the halcyon days of my first car Daytona yellow mk 1 Capri, it had a black vinyl roof. So it must’ve been good ;)

Re: Is it just me, or...

I went to an industry event at Millbrook last summer. There was a Westfield Electric XI, around the the challenging alpine, bowl etc. Left me “cold” despite the hot sunny day that should’ve been a delight in a sporting car. Plenty poke just devoid of something. I’ve driven the same in my 73 911 and ...

Re: Is it just me, or...

I too at times feel hot rod, outlaw, restomod and so forth has become a bit sad and lame. Everything gets dubbed a hot rod outlaw … please?! I had to walk out of a well attended talk a few years back being given the beardy bloke who seems to add rennsport and sports purpose touches to his cars as if...

Re: Exhaust valve compression tool 1969 911 2.0.

Looks like you are sorted. If you’re coming from world of VW tools and see need for special tool the “real deal” factory tool is the P200 (its designed roughly along the lines if VW311h you might be familiar with). Like the somewhat similar P7 for 356 it is a bench tool with wood (or later metal bas...

Re: Supercar Classics and Porsche....

I was in touch with Eion and his daughter just before COVID I discussed the magazine with Steve Cropley not too long ago at sn industry event where we happened to did next to one another. I told him his “Porsche should still make this car” feature that explained how Anne John’s used her RS as everyd...

Re: New Brett Johnson 'Restorers Guide' Discount

Makes sense wanting visibility. Are you referring to Brett (Dr J) or Or Georg (Dr K)? Both have written books with several editions and I’ve had direct dealings on various arcane details and or rare original literature I have as reference about such details with both authors over the years. Keep us ...

Re: New Brett Johnson 'Restorers Guide' Discount

The round Durant when used around 72 73 had a few nuances. The sales market either the importer or more likely the regulator rules in country affected the equipment and for some details like this the position fitted as norm in that country or region. Customer paid m-options might of course been a fa...

Re: New Brett Johnson 'Restorers Guide' Discount

Hi Angus If you bought it from Brett direct (TPR) think access is inclusive but maybe still needs to be enabled. If book bought through other channel like Amazon etc I think there is an extra charge. Coincidentally Brett dropped me a line yesterday to say he has added more photos and included some a...
