Re: New 914 book out now
The author Roy Smith who wrote the book 'Porsche - The Racing 914s' has contact me. "I need to point out an error in the European chart of the 914 book, the problem which turns out to be both technical and driver error was a technical problem on the formatting. Compounded by it not being notice...

Re: Procedure for adjusting the clutch
The 914-4 clutch cable is a bit longer than it should be due to the original plastic cable clevis retainer being longer than the now used slimmer metal cable retainer. It is not unusual for the adjusting lock nut to be on the maximum adjustment and often a spacer is fitted under the nut so you have ...

Re: Olympic Blue / Silver metallic 1972 US Import 1.7L
Looking at PET no fixings are mentioned so maybe mine has been modified on the past. Where's Kevin when you need him?! Under a 914 usually! The exhaust heat guard was originally welded into place to the underside of the rear boot area. Often removed, when rear boot panel is replaced / repaired.

Re: Windscreen fitting
My best advice is go with the Porsche supplied tinted screen, £300 is a fair price ( i paid that 4yrs ago) from memory i think it is tinted at the top fading to clear on the lower part. also get a professional to fit it, might cost a few quid more but well worth it. IMHO. The windscreens supplied b...

Re: Service items - where from?
The 1.7 / 1.8 lead set can be used on the 2.0 if you can't find a 2.0 set; just change the two long spark plug sockets to short sockets, they just unscrew. I have found over the years different manufactures lead wires vary in length and one or two leads might not belong enough to clip into the tin-w...

Re: 2 paces forward, 2 paces back
Over the years I have quite a few different brake problems to fix on numerous 914s of my own and for other 914 owners. There are other parts of the brake circuit which could be causing the problem and not just the brake equaliser especially as you are saying the braking is poor. Are you hearing the ...

Re: Tyre choice
So out of interest, what is the right size for a 1975 914? The 1975 914 was fitted with 5½ J x 15 rims and the original tyre size fitted at the factory was: 1.8 : 165/80 SR 15 2.0 : 165/80 HR 15 Here is the fitment guide that Porsche have made for these cars http://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/page/cla...

I'm guessing I don't need the charcoal filter box any more??? If I do where or how to plumb it ?? Expansion tanks were add on top of the f...

Re: Flaps
Hi Stuart, If I recall correctly, the flaps purpose is to restrict the air flow and warm the engine up faster, so they are not really necessary on a semi-competition engine. I'm fairly sure that I took them out of mine when I rebuilt it, but a/ it was over 35 years ago.........! b/ the whole engine...

Re: '72 T Hesitation & lack of top end
Have you checked the contact points duel angle, vacuum advance unit (is the hose connected? Is the vacuum unit holding a vacuum) and idle timing to make sure it is still as it should be?
