Re: Rebuild update
Anyway the question is - does the steel inner just get fixed into place by the plastic rivets or do the right and left outer edges somehow get fixed into the rubber? I can see a couple of groves in the rubber outer edges that the steel could fit in but I dont want to force it in and split the casin...

Re: 914 1.8 with 3000 miles on clock
The 914 looks like a very nice example. According to the auction sales notes “Service records from its early years record the installation of air conditioning by Anderson-Behel Porsche/Audi of Santa Clara in August of 1976 as well as the installation of running lights by Sunnyvale Porsche-Audi in 19...

Re: Front caliper lock plate
The front brake calipers for the 914-4 are VW 411 items. There were two versions fitted: 70-72 with one bleed nipple and sided: 73-76 with two bleed nipples and were not sided. The locking plate and piston plate use to come in the rebuild kit. The rebuild kit for the early (411 698 471) and late (41...

Re: 912e oil filter change recommendations
The engine is the Type 4 2.0 out of the 914 2.0
On my 914s I use a Mann Filter from GSF Part No. 120VG0080. Most weekends they have a 50% or so discount code. This weekend it is MAY54
Also the strainer gasket kit you will also need, part No. 116VG0020
You should use 20W50 oil in the engine.

Try Mittelmotor in Germany. Part No. 0,2228
https://www.mittelmotor.de/cms/de/10-2- ... 178/0-2228
By the way when using the English version of the Webshop the discription of the Cylinder Head Temperature Sensor is incorrect!

Re: Rewinding inner pistons
I find that the cause of the sticking is the caliper metal casting. Between the inner rubber seal and the dust boot this part of the casting can rust as this part of the casting isn’t plated very well; the surface rust rubs against the piston. This is one of the usual causes of a sticking piston on ...

Re: Project Blue Book
if tis like the 911 pedal box, those clutch pedal roll pins are bitches. I ended up taking mine to a local machine shop to get the roll pin reinstalled as I just couldn't get it go I only managed to get it halfway in  But putting it in the vice finished off the job. I have found that using t...

Sat here on the bench next to the old stuff you can see everything matches. The height and dimensions are bang on :thumb: Old stuff on the left and new old stuff on the right. Re: Black with Black interior 1974 1.7 US import
Just a question, how did you get a 1974 1.7; the 1.7 was 1970 though 73, and the 1.8 in 74 & 75. Is it a mix of years? An error in the for sale description I would think. Looking at the photo, the charcoal filter mounted on the fuel tank is plastic, which makes the 914 a mid-year 1974 model yea...
