Re: Assessing an unknown engine

I think the greasy fingerprints over the dishwasher tab box might be a clue…. It’s easier to clean the valves once you’ve stripped the heads. Pop them in a drill mounted on your vice then use another drill with a wire brush attachment and the they come up lovely. It also gets all the deposits off th...

What about the handbrake job done just before the trip? I can see a tick tick from that before the diff. Just a thought. Absolutely, it’s normally the last thing you fixed that goes wrong. I’ve pulled the RHS off before I started taking it all apart and all looks good. No contact marks anywhere. Ha...

Re: My '72 911T

Odd the output bearing has run on the shaft, but that imho might rumble than tick. I guess the frequency of the tick increases with speed of turn? I’ve had the same swarf on the mag plug in my Lola box, was synchro wear. Fingers crossed for you, but I would expect a total strip soon. I have a Quaif...

My '72 911T

As part of the investigation I stripped and regreased all the CV joints (fun!) Nothing of note except some minor contact between the end of the shaft and the grease cap on the outboard end. So I added a little more clearance. These caps are later parts that don’t quite fit into the outer stub axles ...

I’ll pop up so photos from the Euro drive once everyone is back, but my own journey was cut short by a loud mechanical clicking noise when you turn right. I’d made it all the way down to the Pyrenees and had a wonderful couple of days in the mountains, but after some ‘spirited’ driving keeping the m...

Re: Front wing / underbody coating

Not sure what is original, but I went for stone chip (Raptor) to just inside the radius and then painted it body colour to the inner lip.

You can’t tell unless you really look for it and the protection is infinitely better.

Hocky Puck Horn Button

I bought my repro one a couple of years back from a nice chap in Hungary. Ended up doing a group buy as postage was the same for a box full as for one! Really nice quality, not original obviously but a good alternative for less than half the price. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240509/28b32a305...

This sucks Mark. As you say taking the GT4 is first world problems and all, but that 911 is part of your soul so I completely get the disappointment.

A few mountains will clear the head :)
