Re: RHD 356A Coupe hand throttle length?

that little brass screwy bit inside a household electrical choc block is an under appreciated item... cut away that insulating plastic and you have yourself a very handy piece of old porsche fixy thing... I know I have them under the back of my 356 and the fact I can't remember why or where means th...

Re: Caustic soda /Sodium Hydroxide

I have a brewery and use caustic soda pearl as the main cleaning agent for casks/tanks etc. It isn't nice if you get it on your skin, so wear gloves. It's really nasty if you splash any in eyes. Fumes are also nasty. However, it's safe enough with common sense. Be careful when mixing with (hot) wate...

Re: Classics at the Clubhouse - 27 June 2021

I’m booked - whether I can be arsed to drive that far remains to be seen. I’m planning to go too in the 356. So if you are arsed Keith, then maybe we can have the excitement of going in convoy. Any other aircooleds going up from the West Country? I'm heading up in my 356 from mid devon, all b...

Re: Modern petrol and starting problems

My 1960 on zeniths is a pig to start if left for a while, say more than a couple of days, starts ok otherwise. Always has been. I do need to go through all the earths to make it turnover as quickly as it can. I use basic unleaded. Might try the posher stuff. Sometimes I tip some fuel down the carb t...

Re: Missing engine lid release knob

Your backfiring is likely related to the exhaust but it could also be the mixture is a touch too lean - a quarter turn on all four carb screws stopped mine back firing on overrun.

Re: Precision Matters Auto Prime Kit

Back up for sale! Unfortunately the fuel line on my car has been repositioned below the rear throttle bar sometime in the past and I can’t be arsed to change it back. This means the Auto Prime won’t work correctly if installed on my car. It’s a shame as it looks like a well made solution to a common...

Re: Car storage Query

Hi - I store cars for people at my farm in mid devon. It is fairly basic 'storage' in a steel barn, but I keep an eye on them, trickle charge etc, and I have my cars in there too. It is very much off the beaten track and I don't advertise... so pretty safe. £10 per week. Cheers, Marc.

Re: Cold start difficulty

I like the Heidi and Franny youtube videos! They cranked that 356 for nearly a minute... made me feel like mine isn't too bad. I wouldn't want to crank my starter for that long, it feels stressful. I'd opt for shorter bursts of cranking and more peddle pumping. The point about benefits of building u...

Re: Cold start difficulty

My t5b is the same.... I have to pump gas peddle, turn it over 5-10 secs, pump peddle a load more, repeat.... for a good few minutes. Eventually it will start to fire but still not enough fuel there for it to take properly (my right hand carb doesn’t fill as quick as the left hand one, bit of adjust...

Re: Handle

mine's fitted so it points down for on... pointing left to access reserve and pointing right for off. I tend to switch it off if I think I'm not going to be using the car for a while and then run out of fuel at the same place up the road when I forget to switch it back on
