jacking point rear and axle stands...

Sorry for the dumb question, but I am doing my wheel/tyre swap tomorrow, so need to get the car on stands with the wheels off. Nick told me where to jack at the front with a trolley jack in one of my previous dumb questions! Where does one jack at the back and where do the 4 axle stands go? Thanks G...

Thanks Nick, that's good news (not the bit about the plug/socket though)! Hopefully with some TLC it'll be ok then. I don't expect it to have been burnt or badly modified. Although I found some dodgy stuff behind the rear LHS light unit.

replacing/refurbing the wiring?

As I work through the electrical bugs in my 73 car, I am getting the feeling that the resto it had a couple of years ago didn't do much to the wiring and that this will continue to be a weak spot. What's the scoop with wiring in that generation car? Are there new looms available? Is it modular and e...

Spoke to Tuthills today who confirmed that rolling the wheel arch may be the way to go. But actually I am going to change back to 6" and 7" wheels which will do the trick (even with the same size tyres). There is no need for 7s and 8s. I'll have some 8x15 Fuchs for sale in a short while! G...

just been out and measured the clearance to the Boxster calipers, barely 1/2".

Need to think about next move. Maybe rolling the lip of the front wings is the way to go.

ahh, just realised they also have a 41 which makes them 76-83 wheels. A page from Bill Verburg gives the offset as 23.3mm. Not bad measurement! So the 6" wheel has an offset of 36mm v my 7" wheel has an offset of 23 mm I think that means that in comparison with a 6" wheel, the tyres w...

So checked the wheels, they say:
911 361 020 AS10 62

Dunno what that means!

Rough and ready offset measurement gives about 23mm.

Thanks for the new pic Paul. I tend to agree with you. In the absence of someone saying "aha, that'll be because...", I will need to tak some measurements and compare with someone running the same setup. I guess I need to establish the wheel offset and then establish the position of the hu...

Thanks all for the help so far. The ride heights are about 1" down at 24.5" at the front and 23.5 at the back. I still think that the tyres must be too far out. Having had a wheel off, there are no spacers. So I think either the wheels have a different offset or the hubs are different. It ...

I'll look for spacers too, but I cant see them!

So as I am complete porsche novice, where should I jack the front to take a wheel off?

mmm, interesting. I assume that the front wing of the RS was no different to a standard 73 car? So the tyres could stick out too far, they certainly seem to be "bulgey". The offset could be wrong, the rideheight could be set too low. Where can I find standard suspension settings? I'll take...

oh no, next problem, front tyres too big

So started the day with 3 problems, fixed two, ended up with 3 still to fix. It seems that the front tyres are too big at 195x65's. The LH front has caught on the inside of the top of the wheel arch and pulled it a little out of shape. There is certainly little clearance. As a reminder it's a 2.4t w...
