Sounds from the garage

In my second home - the garage, I have a fairly serious sound system, it's a 120 watt Technics set up into B & W speakers. I do like to crank it up a bit when I've got the old welding torch blazing and I was wondering what all of you listen to when wrenching on the ole 356. Just for starters, on...

Not another 356 restoration

Hi peeps, back from my travels and back into a slightly warmer garage, all the heaters have been stashed up on the top shelves. I finally have the front panels on the old bird. I gas welded them instead of using the TIG because in a few places I had to fill gaps and this is just so much easier with ...

Oh God I feel really guilty, I hav'nt touched the ole girl for over a week now, mainly because I've been painting the front of the house. In this weather, yeah it's OK, put a few layers on and plenty of coffee stops and you can do it. Actually it is really to get some brownie points cos I'm off to L...

Dana Point Porsches

Hi Dudes, just got my Feb issue of Ultra VW and in it is a report on a classic Porsche meet at Dana Point which is about an hour out of LAX off PCH. The promoters are something to do with Der Kleiner Panzers but there are a load of great 356 pics. Buy a copy or if VW magazines make you puke hide it ...

Hi Gary, thanks for the words, I'm going to take some more pics as soon as there is some paint on/in the beast. James, the last car I owned that had an umbrella hand brake was a sit up and beg Ford Pop. It did have a 4.7 litre V8 in it but I did'nt want the reminder. Actually reasons are I am fittin...

Not being that keen on xmas (no kids) we usually get away for a week or so and this year flew off to San Diego. Got off the plane at LAX got the renter and within 5 mins on PCH saw an immac bright yellow 356, homesick in an instant or rather garagesick. Some relief was having Speed channel on the ho...

Not another 356 restoration

Back in the shed last night I decided that I just cannot spray paint in the garage. I wanted to prime the front suspension area after rubbing it all down but the overspray was just so bad. When I come to paint the car I think I shall inpact staple polythene onto all surfaces as protection. At the mo...

PERSONAL REGGIES

I know the authorities like to call them 'cherished' registrations but I think that is a bit sad and poncy. Although some people do put these personal reggies into the chav box, I think they are the final statement of proud car (or bike) ownership. I have had and sold on two A911... reggies. The las...

Car shipping

Hi guys, sorry for late reply, I've been abroad. Difficult to give an exact figure cos there are so many variables such as length of car for example with a 962 with front and rear spoilers attached the length exceeds the max that will fit in the aircraft hold. I am talking 747 where the pallets are ...

Front clip

I got a front clip from the guys at KK. I contacted all the US manufacturers and after receiving tales of no stock, wont be doing any for three months etc I choose KK. Also as I am with an airline I dont pay anything for freight and even with this bonus it still seemed UK was the best bet. Most airl...
