Re: Old Sckool 5 cc model Diesel engine build
Thanks Mark, but i must admit it is not really to my liking. Dissapointed at my level of handywork, it is scruffy in the detail in exposed places, but overall not to bad maybe for my first shot at precise machining on a 100 year old very basic lathe that has lived a life in a village garage. The Myf...

Re: Non-Porsche Hot Rod picture of the day
Phat Phender Phords as they were know in my hot rod days of the 70's. Fab cars and look very usable. Closest we had here was the Ford Pilot with flathead V8. While writing an small article on my Ford Y Type for a Club magazine today, found some old pics, which bought back some real memories of the f...

Re: '65
That looks a right bib-full.
I did my 73T coupe shell in 1989 and it was bad in the usual places, but 'pristine' compared to this shell.
Some big patches going in, but will be great when it has all cooled down.
Thank you for posting all of this work by Barry, most interesting.

Re: The DDK Nationals
Those dates clash (as many do) with my hillclimb events, the Aug dates are the big chances to score good points to the Championship, so will take priority!
I wish all who get there a great time.
Graham.

Re: Assessing an unknown engine
Yes, agree, and I said that before, but, it is all very DIY, just need the Dempsey book and a few special tools and a Machine Mart engine stand.
If the pistons/cylinders are damaged then the costs escalate dramatically, but can't T barrels be bored? (a small amount)

Re: Old Sckool 5 cc model Diesel engine build
While I wait for the fine lapping grease and some fresh cast iron for the piston thought I would do some boring bits. The needle itself has been made as my friend suggested, in the chuck and with a grind stone in the dremmel (and it at maximum rpm) shaped the needle point quite well. Turned a needle...

My word, no more superlative's left to express the work.
I presume this adventure is also in the world of the Jaguar enthusiasts?
What a treat this thread is.

Re: Old Sckool 5 cc model Diesel engine build
Chipping away at this project still, maybe 60% of the way there now. Finished the piston and it turned out oddly accurate, actually goes up and down the cylinder, BUT, maybe too slack. There is a lack of real compression, so I might make another to get it tighter. The contra piston is far too loose ...

Re: my non-Porsche picture of the day
On the spur of the moment when solo to the NEC today for the Practical Classics show. Got a discount on the parking last night, so that bought the first coffee. Good show, surprisingly quiet to the extent you could walk in a straight line along and down all the cars! So nice cars there, but nothing ...

This is all nice and 'local' to me, about 1 hour and I'm there, so if the date(s) decided do not clash with one of my hillclimb events.

Ha!
Looks like a bass player to me.
Cool, calm and collected in the second row back!
Does that make Angus the grumpy Lead Singer?

Re: Assessing an unknown engine
Possibly a call to Angus at Greatworth Classics Rob? Sam there does the engine/boxes for Angus and has RedTek background too so must have seen this kind of damage before. Magnesium alloy is a very rare material now, so many will have not seen it before. Do not trust anyone in the wheel refurb 'trade...

All that wiring, I would hate it, but all done now, tidy job and good to simplify if you can, simple is best every time.
Good luck with the next step, which must be testing it all?
