Valve seat cutting stem using the guide as 'the guide'.

Re: The XK

These workings a just the best.
Thank goodness the two of you go about these restorations with such acute focus.
Fabulous to see and read.

Re: Assessing an unknown engine

Indeed, that is why I though the guide being 'shrunk' when pressed in the head might nip-up the wear on the valve shafts.

MORE head work, the most complex bit of the old 911 engine I think.

Re: Assessing an unknown engine

I think the engine rebuild kits from Design 911 also have new guides, but you need to check that Rob.

Fresh guide bores may well close things up enough to have a reasonable clearance.

Better than we all give no response!

Re: Assessing an unknown engine

Yes, a bit of a gap to allow the ingress of carbon deposit to creep up.
All new valves are expensive!

Re: Classic and Rebuild Vehicles Consultation

Those days are LONG gone, freedom like this went out in the 80's.

The world is a different place 40 years on.

Re: 1987 3.2 Carrera Backdate project - Sladeys hotrod

There is, but if there is a lot (compared to others) then that means there is a LOT of valve clearance, not too tight, just too loose, so would mean the valve will shut just not open much and produce a loud ticking as the parts impact.

All clearances need checking and again to tick them off the list.

Re: A Dream Fulfilled - MY 904FF

There are 3 in my class, the Norma with 500 bhp+ and the Aussie VW special with 500+. And me. Might catch the VW, but doubt it, so it is 3rd for me I think, pointless'racing' for other positions, but will have a go! Shelsley Walsh is narrow at the top... https://i.postimg.cc/W17TggXk/simon-shels.jpg

Re: What did you do in/on/for your Porsche today?

Spent nearly 2 hours getting the broken window regulator out of the Boxster this afternoon as it wasn't raining. Part on it's way from Design911, so clearing the debris out now will make installation easier... Always reminds me that modern cars are so complicated and detailed, clips and more clips (...

Re: 1971 Burgundy 911T

Hope you fit something unusual!

Wonder how much hot air the number plate lip seal stops from being pulled in off the hot silencer?
My 73T has never had that seal since I bought it in '88 but it can get hot in mid summer/traffic queue etc.
