I want to keep them with the car , as I've a policy of retaining all parts to return the car to completely standard if desired. well , except the original heat exchangers ... you'd have to be mad : )

I went hydraulic after advice from peter morgan , but my ( not very old ) standard tensioners were retained , in case someone wishes to go back to standard one day. Given my time over , I'd spend the money on petrol instead : )

My car was imported November 1971 though ,

Thanks guys , I'll try the second hand part from Douglas Valley Breakers and if it looks like that modern part and fixes the problem I'll get a new one from type911.

I think I need a new Voltage regulator , but they're not cheap are they ? GSF don't have 'em , Euro I think do , listed as : VOLTAGE REGULATOR 55A MARCHAL £68.53 inc VAT & P&P ( £49.82 without ) Does that sound the right bit / price ? perhaps I should try the scrappy first in case it's not t...

Cleaned out both battery boxes with bicarb of soda ( clearly a special twincarb soda setup ) and I think I identified the regulator - an aluminium box next to the CDI ? Fixed up a new earth etc for it but I'm still charging at 19.5V. Pretty happy really , at least I know what's wrong and that's half...
