1.7 914 engine - are they worth anything?
A mate of mine in Wales who's into VWs has a beach buggy that he was going to fit a 1.7 914 engine in, but he's busy with water-cooled stuff - sticking hot 16v engines in Mk1 Golfs.. He was just on the phone to me asking if they're worth anything, as he's thinking of selling the engine off separatel...

Re: Turbo Tie Rods
I bought from Porsche. Wasn't that ridiculous at the time. The Lemforder ones should come in a sealed bag with a lemforder sticker (with the owl) on the bag (or at least the Merc ones I had did). On google the Lemforder part number if 025.315.505.583 whereas I think the Porsche part is 930.347.031....

Re: Can anyone suggest where to look for a 914-6 wiring loom
A friend who races has custom looms made up for his racing cars. I'll see if I can find out who builds them for him.
There's not much to a 914-6 engine loom, assuming you're running on carbs, and the rest of the car should be much the same as 4 cyl, I'd have thought.

Re: Dashtop recovering
Flocking won't look original, but they can epoxy fill the cracks and it'll look pretty good - suede look - you could even colour code it!
This fella did a Mk1 Scirocco dash for me, for about £70. Nottingham area.

Re: God bless America!!
Scary isn't it. I get the impression that AA don't have a good rep on 914 World, from some of the comments on there. Anyone have experience of dealing with them?

Re: Disaster
Car looks good - at least the new paint should seal all the water out and avoid rot, as long as it had cured.
What colour is that? Is it an original 914 colour?

Re: 'Moving Parts' - need help with transportation
If you've got a mate with a big company car and free diesel, go for a road trip and buy him lunch. With the price of 914 panels it has to be worth going for a look to see what else is there. If not, I'd be driving down there even if I was paying for the fuel.

Re: 5 stud conversion
Congratulations - pics?! This book is quite useful if you're planning to modify the car, but definitely not worth the 'new' prices being quoted. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Restore-Modify-Your-Porsche-914-6/dp/0760305846/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1382351620&sr=8-1&keywords=patrick+paternie+914 ...

Re: 3.2 - 914
Here's one for $52k in the US. Looks tidy, although I'm not sure about one or two of the 'upgrades'. Comes with the original lump as well as the 3.2 that's in it. Original 914-6 again.

This looks like quite a good basis for a project... tidy shell but needs the engine upgrading...

Yes, the pax side door gap doesn't look clever at all does it. Might need putting on a flat chassis table to check straightness and strap it back down level.
