There's no need to go to the US to get a rebuilt engine. The Engine Shop in Kent, near Dartford, do them. http://www.theengineshop.info/acatalog/Transporter-1700cc-1800cc-2000cc-1972--1983-071100031XV.html You could take him your engine and get him to build it thus keeping the Porsche specific heads...
